Background / History

Furina was originally a Pure Water Sprite and a dependent of Egeria, the First Hydro Archon. Chosen to become Egeria’s successor, she accepted the burden of Fontaine’s original sin and the fate of its people rather than allow others to bear the sacrifice. 599 659

After inheriting the Divine Seat of the Hydro Archon, Furina devised a plan to save Fontaine from its prophecy and deceive the Sovereign of the Heavenly Principles. She divided herself into two beings: her physical body and humanity became the mortal Furina, while Furina retained the spiritual and divine aspects of the Hydro Archon. 637

She cursed her human half so that Furina could not die while she herself remained alive. While the human Furina publicly performed as Fontaine’s Hydro Archon for centuries, Furina hid within the Instrument of Judgment, gathering Primordial Water Energy for a final act of self-destruction intended to fulfill the prophecy. 637

Furina and her human half’s wishes drew Little Griseo and the Ark to Teyvat. Once Little Griseo offered to resolve Fontaine’s original sin and prophecy, Furina emerged to explain the truth to Furina and Neuvillette. 618 629 635 636

Little Griseo ultimately rewrote the origin and history of Fontaine’s people, removing the condition that caused them to dissolve in Primordial Sea water. Furina and her human half experienced the result as a rebirth of both Fontaine and themselves. 640 641

Following the crisis, Furina openly became one of Fontaine’s two acknowledged Hydro Archons. She took the leading role in government, resolved long-standing cases, oversaw the sealing of the Primordial Sea, and reformed Fontaine’s social and legal atmosphere. 644 646 647

Furina has the same basic appearance as her human half, though they are distinguished by their differing presence and aura. Her white hair carries pale-blue gradient highlights, and her water-drop pupils are especially noticeable. 634 641

Compared with her human half, Furina is more serious, reserved, and methodical. She is capable of calmly maintaining a centuries-long deception, governing efficiently after returning to the public eye, and making severe reforms when she considers them necessary. 637 643 649

Despite her composure, Furina is not indifferent. She is highly devoted to Egeria, cares intensely for her sister, and becomes protective of Little Griseo after Fontaine is saved. Her affection for Little Griseo eventually develops into an openly expressed romantic relationship. 659 666 668
