Umbrella Corporation was developing well. Chen Changsheng himself possessed the formulas for drugs that enhanced various bodily functions. He had recorded many of them from the Prototype world, so with the help of these formulas, these agents were quickly developed.
However, drug approval processes required a very, very long time. Chen Changsheng didn't dwell too much on this, as it was a project with long-term returns.
Through Stark Industries' connections, Chen Changsheng finally officially connected with the US military in the Marvel world.
After presenting his Bio-Tyrant to the military representatives, they showed considerable interest. However, the military representatives also made it clear that they would not invest until they saw tangible results.
As perpetual suckers, the US military had suffered too many setbacks in bioweapon research.
Not to mention far-off examples, just look at Osborn Industries, tasked with replicating the Super Soldier Serum. They were swindling massive research funds every year. Yet, despite the enormous funding, Osborn couldn't produce any results, which truly angered the military.
But having already invested so much, the military found it difficult to withdraw their funding. If they were to pull out, wouldn't all the previous investments be wasted? They could only continue to increase their investment, hoping Osborn Industries would step up and deliver some results.
They wanted tangible results before investing. What exactly constituted "tangible results"? Chen Changsheng was somewhat confused by their words.
Chen Changsheng could casually toss out a cluster of viruses and create a Combat Beast. Did that not count as a result?
Of course, Chen Changsheng wouldn't casually unleash a powerful weapon like the Combat Beast. This was a high-end combat unit capable of going toe-to-toe with tanks. Secret weapons were best kept as trump cards; no one plays their bombs on the first turn when playing poker.
Chen Changsheng planned to first create some Zombie Enhanced Dogs to fool the military and secure some research funds. A steady stream of income was the best strategy.
As for the contagiousness of the zombie virus, Chen Changsheng could completely control it according to his preferences. At the level of viruses and genes, there was probably no one in this world who understood it better than Chen Changsheng.
A few days later, at a military base on the outskirts of New York, a clandestine small-scale weapons bidding event for the US military quietly commenced.
The primary participants in this bidding event were a few advanced weapon manufacturers, including Stark Industries and Osborn Industries.
As a new company, Umbrella Corporation was not qualified to participate. However, at the strong recommendation of Tony Stark, the military allowed Umbrella to join the exhibition. They wanted to see the actual capabilities of a company that Tony Stark favored.
At the exhibition site, military brass sat in the audience, like patrons at a brothel, staring intently at the neatly arranged weapons on the open ground.
Among these generals, notable figures included General Ross, who had always been eager to develop a super-soldier enhancement serum. Even more eye-catching was a bald Black man sitting in a corner, scrutinizing everyone with his single eye.
His head, so black it gleamed, was truly unforgettable...
The one-eyed Black man was none other than the deputy director of the Strategic Homeland Defense, Attack, and Logistics Bureau, Nick Fury.
Or, it could be said, he was the deputy director of the Serpent Shield Bureau, the precursor to S.H.I.E.L.D., Nick Fury.
At this moment, although Nick Fury sat quietly in the corner, he exuded an aura of being the boss. His demeanor, which clearly conveyed "I'm awesome, don't bother me," was quite attention-grabbing.
A black trench coat, dark sunglasses, and an impeccably serious expression – he was clearly signaling to others, "I'm the big shot..."
Of course, this was all in Nick Fury's mind. In reality, the US military brass didn't want to deal with Nick Fury, the spymaster, feeling it would lower their status to speak with him.
Compared to the high-tech displays by Stark Industries, Hammer Industries showcased mostly conventional weapons. Due to their reasonable prices and extensive connections, Hammer Industries always secured substantial military orders.
Stark Industries went without saying. Advanced precision-guided missiles, weapons of mass destruction – anything related to high-tech weaponry was mostly supplied by Stark Industries.
As for Osborn Industries, they displayed a type of individual combat armor, which was filled with sci-fi elements. It featured a long hoverboard at the feet, capable of lifting an ordinary person into the sky. However, it was evident that the soldier controlling the hoverboard was not skilled. The takeoff was wobbly, causing many military leaders to frown repeatedly. This lackluster performance evoked unpleasant memories for some.
When they saw Umbrella Corporation's bioweapons, a collective gasp of chilled air swept through the audience. Umbrella Corporation was demonstrating the power of its bioweapons. Five hounds burst out of a sealed shipping container. These hounds were muscular, their eyes were white, and they exuded an aura of pressure.
Their explosively powerful muscles bulged high, and their incessant growls proclaimed them as ruthless killing machines.
Another shipping container not far away was opened, revealing a Mighty Lion from the African savanna, also a test subject for this demonstration. As the attack command was issued, the five hounds launched their assault on the Mighty Lion.
The Mighty Lion naturally didn't regard the hounds as a threat. The king of beasts let out a majestic roar and casually swatted away one of the lunging hounds with a single paw. The hounds that followed, however, seized the opportunity, flanking the Mighty Lion and biting its body from both sides. Under the immense biting force, a piece of bloody flesh was torn away.
With its flesh ripped open, the Mighty Lion let out two pained roars and instinctively prepared to retaliate. But the hounds, having seized the opening, showed no mercy. After a flurry of frenzied bites, only a dying Mighty Lion remained on the scene.
Witnessing this bloody spectacle immediately captured the attention of the generals. Having climbed their way up through combat, these powerful generals relished such bloody scenes more than anyone.
However, in modern warfare, this level of power was insufficient. While the hounds were strong, they were not suitable for modern warfare.
The only one among them who showed interest and asked questions was General Ross, who had always been fascinated by creatures with individual qualities far exceeding ordinary beings.
Seeing that the military brass was not interested in his hounds, Chen Changsheng snapped his fingers and deployed another bioweapon.
The Tyrant, a replica from the Resident Evil world. A massive Bio-Tyrant, over three meters tall, was covered in large-caliber bullets. It wielded a six-barreled Gatling gun in its hand and had a rocket launcher with a full magazine on its back. With such firepower, even a tank would have to reconsider.
Upon its appearance, the Tyrant charged in one direction, where some automated defenses and pre-set targets were located. The automated defenses detected the Tyrant's approach and immediately began to attack.
However, the continuously firing machine guns only managed to draw a few sparks from the Tyrant's body, barely hindering its rapid advance.
As time passed, the bloody wounds on the Tyrant's body began to heal at a visible rate.
When it reached a certain distance, a rocket was fired from its rear at an angle, hitting directly below the Tyrant's feet. The Tyrant stumbled from the blast, and the explosion ignited the Tyrant's ingrained combat response memory. The six-barreled Gatling gun was raised and began to slowly rotate. The next moment, a storm of blue-glowing bullets erupted from the barrels.
With the aid of its computer systems, the Tyrant shredded the so-called automated defense system in just one sweeping barrage.
Finally, the Tyrant retrieved a rocket launcher from its back and fired it at a distant target, hitting the bullseye with perfect accuracy.
This display instantly stunned the military brass, who all rose to their feet, looking at the Tyrant as its wounds gradually healed.
At first glance, the Tyrant's appearance was truly disgusting, like a skinned monkey. But as its offensive capabilities became apparent, one had to admit, the more they looked, the more they liked it...
After the Tyrant completed its attack sequence, the weapons demonstration segment officially began. The military brass swarmed towards the Tyrant, loudly inquiring about its information. These military leaders were particularly interested in the Tyrant's rapid wound-healing ability.
As long as they were interested, they would pay.
Since the military brass was interested, signing the contract went exceptionally smoothly. After signing the contract with the military, Chen Changsheng met up with Tony Stark again.
Stark hadn't expected Chen Changsheng to use his automated defense system for the demonstration. This move truly embarrassed Stark Industries. However, Tony didn't say anything. In Tony Stark's eyes, these were minor matters. Stark Industries had close ties with the military and no longer needed to rely on such gimmicks to secure orders.
It was the Tyrant, however, that piqued Tony Stark's interest.
"Jack, the things you research, their appearance is truly disgusting," Tony Stark said to Chen Changsheng with distaste, not meaning anything else, just finding them visually unappealing.
"I'm more interested in the biological aspect, and I happen to be researching human enhancement. These biological weapons are just byproducts of that research. It would be a waste not to use them, so I might as well trade them with the military for some investment," Chen Changsheng said with a shrug, sounding indifferent.
"Interested in joining me in Afghanistan for another weapons demonstration?" Tony Stark didn't pay much attention to the Tyrant, changing the subject and inviting Chen Changsheng.
"Afghanistan? I'll pass. I have a lot of studying to do lately, and I need to focus on my coursework," Chen Changsheng decided not to get involved in what was about to happen. He needed to forge his own path.
However, considering the help he had received from Stark and Pepper, Chen Changsheng took a thumb-sized injector from his pocket. This serum had no other purpose than to keep someone alive. As long as there was a breath left, it could sustain life...
Chen Changsheng didn't want to hear about Tony Stark being blown up by a bomb anytime soon. To be safe, Chen Changsheng specifically gave Tony Stark this small vial filled with life essence. It was not for sale.
Seeing Tony Stark's disgusted expression, as if he didn't want to reach out and take it, Chen Changsheng said calmly, "This is our company's latest recovery serum. As long as you're not dead, it guarantees you'll survive for a while longer, no matter how severe your injuries are. It's not for sale. If you don't need it, then forget it." With that, Chen Changsheng made a move to take back the injector.
Tony Stark wasn't slow either. Taking the small vial with a mix of doubt and belief, he saw that Chen Changsheng wasn't joking and put the serum into his jacket pocket.
Being prepared for anything was a principle that wealthy individuals like Tony Stark understood well.
After bidding farewell to Tony Stark, General Ross of the military walked over to Chen Changsheng. After shaking hands, the two quietly moved to a corner, clearly intending to conduct some clandestine transaction.
Meanwhile, Norman Osborn, lurking in a corner, was grinding his teeth. He was clearly displeased that his biggest benefactor was ignoring him and going to see some unknown nobody.
If Chen Changsheng knew what Norman Osborn was thinking at that moment, he would have said, "Even if I gave you a chance, you're useless."
General Ross seemed to see a shadow of Captain America in these Tyrants. His desire for an enhancement serum began to beat wildly in his chest again.
General Ross clearly felt that he was one step closer to realizing his dream.
