On the second day after Thanos arrived on Earth, Umbrella Corporation gathered many of the world's renowned scientists in the name of extraterrestrial communication. Nick Fury, leader of the Avengers, Earth's nominal official organization, finally received the explosive news.
In fact, Earth's current situation was far more chaotic than anyone had imagined. The Avengers, Umbrella Corporation, the various national powers, aliens... The complexity of it all made Nick Fury miss the days when S.H.I.E.L.D. had been the dominant force.
Back then, he had only been an ordinary agent, but S.H.I.E.L.D.'s control had been beyond imagination.
Deeply aware of how tense the situation was, Nick Fury irritably rubbed his bald head. Then, rather vexed, he pulled a decidedly old-fashioned object from his trench-coat pocket—a small pager manufactured in the last century.
The traces of the great battle within the Solar System had already reached Earth at the speed of light, and Earth's people had picked up the information. The vast amount of data transmitted by Thanos's fleet was being urgently decoded by Tony Stark.
Although the alien fleet's signals had quickly vanished, no one believed the aliens had merely passed by for a look.
Nick Fury firmly believed that the aliens' all-out assault would begin at any moment. The reason the alien fleet could no longer be detected was that the enemy had hidden itself, preparing to attack Earth!
At that thought, Nick Fury stopped hesitating. He pressed the button on the pager in his hand and waited for that old friend to return.
The various crises facing Earth could clearly not be resolved by the loosely organized Avengers, let alone with the Avengers already on the verge of falling apart. As all these thoughts converged, Nick Fury suddenly recalled an idea from the past—and a particular group of friends.
