The manic night was shrouded in thick black clouds, and the moonlight spilled endless darkness like ink.
The cooling wind swirled over the barren ground, kicking up tiny whirlwinds of dirt that swept toward the ruined wasteland in the distance.
Although this refugee-occupied district had always been filled with endless silence and despair, the sudden, sharp crack of a gunshot tore through the stillness like thunder.

The gunshot's echo seemed to linger on the empty streets, pounding against everyone's hearts like a heavy hammer.
At the street corner, the thirty thugs who had originally been advancing menacingly now crouched motionless in the shadows, as if frozen in place.
Horror was written all over their faces, and disbelief filled their eyes, as though they had just heard the call of death.
Even the refugees, who had been furious only a moment earlier, were now stunned. They stared toward the direction of the gunshot, their faces filled with shock and confusion.
