The Dark Elf warriors, each with incredibly rich combat experience, were completely baffled.
Their long years of battle had honed their instincts, so they did not slow down at all. Instead, they accelerated once more, hoping to cross this stretch as quickly as possible.
They knew very well that longbows, shortbows, and even the javelins they had seen all had an effective attack range. Take an ordinary shortbow, for example. Even if the arrows were fired by lobbing them, their maximum effective range was barely a hundred meters, while their minimum range was only a few meters. Once an enemy entered within a few meters, even if the Shortbowmen had time to nock and fire another arrow, it would have no power left.
Longbows and javelins had an even greater minimum attack range than shortbows. Javelins were especially troublesome. Although they did not require the user to nock an arrow and draw a bow, the process of taking out and throwing a javelin was actually longer than firing an arrow. Compared to drawing a bow after nocking an arrow, a javelin wielder needed to make a short sprint to increase the force of the throw. Throughout the process, they also had to carefully control their movements to keep the javelin balanced.
Moreover, compared to bows and arrows, javelins were larger. Although they had greater single-target destructive power, they were also slower and easier to dodge!
Thus, the Dark Elf warriors knew very well that as long as they could dodge two volleys of javelins—three at most—they would be able to enter the safe zone. By then, it would be their turn to slaughter the enemy unilaterally!
However, they soon discovered the same problem the short one had noticed: those strangely shaped javelins were far harder to dodge than any javelins
