What were taverns for?
Selling alcohol, of course, and... serving food?
Anyone who answered that would be laughed at.
In any world, taverns served the purpose of getting people drunk. That was beyond doubt. But in many places, that was no longer a tavern's primary function.
As the place in a city where people gathered most frequently and where the identities of those coming and going were the most diverse, the transmission of information had become many taverns' foremost business.
You walked into a tavern, ordered the cheapest ale, chatted idly with the server, and then were led to some secluded corner.
Don't misunderstand. This wasn't about robbing and murdering you. It was simply about introducing you to the information broker best suited to your needs.
Of course, that was only the "official method" of gathering information. More often, people carried their cups from table to table. When they drained their cups and left, it meant that they had gotten the answers they were looking for.
The tavern that had appeared out of nowhere in Farview Town naturally served this function as well.
The Dark Dwarf dressed far more meticulously than the two in the smithy was the tavern's proprietor, and also worked as its bartender.
As for the two halflings, they were naturally the legendary "all-knowing tavern servers." Halflings were an extremely nimble race. Besides being suited to work as thieves, working in places that required them to hear in all directions and keep watch in every direction was also their preferred occupation.
With them, the tavern's two most basic functions—selling alcohol and smoothly exchanging information—were guaranteed.
Moreover, as a building created from a Building Blueprint gifted by the system, the tavern possessed some special functions in various aspects.
Take selling alcohol, for example. Even without any supplies, the
