Background

Alfred led the Lion Mercenary Group in the Aima Empire, where he became known as the Gula Lion. He brought thirty-two people out of Gula and spent nearly a decade protecting them in mercenary work; Landen states that none of those original companions died or became disabled because Alfred repeatedly took the dangers upon himself. The accumulated wounds left him with hidden ailments and stalled his strength despite possessing the rare Saint Eta Lion as a Bloodline Guardian Beast. 401

While escorting valuable goods from the Aima Empire to the Federation of a Hundred Nations, Alfred was drawn into a trap connected to rival mercenary groups and Aluchi's betrayal. Landen exposed the danger in advance, and Alfred prepared his people for a fight despite distrusting Landen's knowledge of his past. 401 402

Alfred's group was ambushed by overwhelming forces on the road to Blue Rose City. He retained command under pressure, ordered his men into a defensive formation, and survived through the intervention of Landen's troops. Alfred later personally killed Aluchi for his betrayal. 403 404

After the Tree Planter Organization marked him with the Sacred Tree Mark, Alfred agreed to become Landen's subordinate in exchange for protection for the Lion Mercenary Group and the freedom for its members to leave if they wished.
