"What?!"
Tsunade's little face reddened as she stomped her foot in displeasure. Who talked about people like that?
Standing to the side, Orochimaru merely gave the two of them a faint glance without reacting at all.
This scene apparently wasn't the first of its kind. Only when she was around Hiko did Tsunade show the demeanor a girl should have. Usually... she was far too violent.
Even if he didn't say it aloud, Orochimaru would add that remark in his heart.
"Cough, cough!"
Hiko coughed to suppress his laughter. He refrained from making fun of Tsunade, lest she fly into a rage and fight him. He wasn't afraid, but there was no need for it.
"But Jiraiya seems to be late today. Did he oversleep?"
Jiraiya really had overslept. Not only was he still snoring away at home, drooling as he slept, he was even shouting things like, "I'll definitely graduate successfully!"
"Isn't that idiot oversleeping the most normal thing ever?"
Hiko successfully redirected Tsunade's attention straight to Jiraiya.
"He should be here soon."
Hiko replied without saying more. In his view, Jiraiya wouldn't be late at such an important moment.
"I wonder who our teacher will be."
With nothing else to do, Tsunade began guessing who their teacher might be.
"I don't know."
Hiko shook his head. No one could guarantee that there wouldn't be an unexpected change. What if the Third Hokage didn't personally take charge? Who would dare guarantee something like that with absolute certainty?
Even though Hiko was a transmigrator who knew what would happen later, he still didn't dare be certain.
Even if he were completely certain, he couldn't just say it outright. Otherwise, he might get chopped into pieces. How could a child know something so confidential? That would be a real mess.
Jiraiya hadn't really overslept, had he?
As the sun slowly rose and the time arrived, Jiraiya was still nowhere to be seen. Hiko was too exhausted to even complain.
If the teacher was late, that was the teacher's right. But you were a student, one who hadn't even passed the assessment yet, and you were already late. Wasn't that the same as going against the teacher?
Still, the Third Hokage probably wouldn't care about something like this.
"Ah! I'm late!"
Inside a residential building somewhere in Konoha, a shrill scream suddenly erupted with tremendous force, startling everyone nearby.
Bang! The door was smashed open immediately afterward. Jiraiya ran toward the school while getting dressed, not even having time to close the door.
"It's over, it's over, I'm late."
He kept muttering as he ran.
"Pant... pant..."
Jiraiya rushed into the school, gasping for breath, and arrived at the playground. He hurriedly looked around and, upon seeing that only Hiko, Tsunade, and Orochimaru were there, he let out a huge sigh of relief and collapsed onto the ground.
"I'm exhausted. I thought the teacher had arrived already."
"..."
Hiko and Orochimaru looked at Jiraiya speechlessly. To be late at such an important time—they truly admired his nerves of steel. Had he gone out thieving last night?
"Idiot! You're the only one who could be late at a time like this!"
Tsunade scolded him in frustration.
Seeing Jiraiya's disheveled state—not to mention his hair, with two clumps of eye gunk still hanging from it—they could tell he had overslept. He had rushed over in such a panic that he hadn't even had time to wash up.
"Well, uh, haha, haha..."
Jiraiya hurriedly wiped his face and scratched his hair, laughing awkwardly. Though he wanted nothing more than to crawl into a hole, he still tried to laugh it off and muddle through.
Thank goodness the teacher hadn't arrived yet. Sitting on the ground and gulping down air, Jiraiya had truly been afraid that the teacher was already here. That would have been humiliating.
In fact, the teacher had arrived long ago. No one had noticed him.
Not even Hiko could detect him.
"This child..."
In the woods beside the playground, perched atop a large tree, the Third Hokage had arrived shortly after Hiko. He wanted to observe the children's reactions. Orochimaru remained as he always was, without the slightest hint of nervousness.
Hiko and Tsunade chatted from time to time. All three of them were confident that they could pass the test, so what was there to worry about?
This satisfied the Third Hokage greatly. But soon, he was rendered speechless because Jiraiya had actually overslept on such an important day!
