Dealing with Sunagakure had been easy enough. When Iwagakure declared war on Konoha, fighting on two fronts left Konoha somewhat flustered, but it was still manageable. Once Kirigakure joined in, though, Konoha would be dealing with more than just chaos. At that point, every Konoha higher-up aside from Hiko would probably have a splitting headache.

Not to mention Kumogakure, which loved swooping in to reap the rewards. If they joined the fray too, the consequences would be unimaginable.

While the war with Sunagakure was still ongoing, Iwagakure declared war on Konoha. Their ninja army had already reached the Borderline, leaving Konoha's villagers worried that Konoha might not be able to hold on, allowing the enemy to surge into the Land of Fire to wreak havoc—or even attack Konoha itself.

Fortunately, Konoha's swift response reassured the villagers. A large force of ninja left Konoha and headed for the Borderline, though it was in a different direction from the Sunagakure battlefield.
