"Ash, do you want this?"
"Mom!"
Noticing his mother approaching, Ash hurriedly pretended not to care and shifted his gaze aside. Yet Catherine, peeking over from behind him, immediately noticed the toy he had been staring at.
"Ash really likes Tiga, doesn't he? You always used to drag Mom along to watch those special-effects shows."
Even in 2049, Ultraman Tiga still stood at the forefront of the Ultraman series' popularity.
"Mom, do you think these things are fake too?"
That was what his father always said.
"Mom doesn't understand them as well as you do."
His mother crouched down and gently stroked the black hair atop her son's head.
"But if Ash likes them, then Mom will like them too."
That was great! Hearing his mother say that made Ash genuinely happy.
"Sorry, but Mom didn't bring that much money today."
Looking once more at the Ultraman figure on the stall, gentle Catherine brushed the black hair from his forehead.
"I can't buy it for you today."
"It's okay!"
Ash showed no sign of disappointment. Instead, he comforted his mother.
"As long as I can be with Mom, I'm happy even without toys!"
"Besides, I'm already six. I really don't need to play with toys for little kids anymore."
"What a sensible, good boy."
At the time, Ash did not understand why his mother, who seemed so reluctant to let go, held him tighter and tighter.
"Mom is very proud."
"How about this? Mom will come back tomorrow and buy it for you."
"Ash, do you remember what happened after that?"
"Ah..."
Back in the real world, Ash held his increasingly aching head and replied softly.
"Maybe Mom was busy with something else, or maybe someone else bought that
