Konan's role in Akatsuki was not only that of a leader, but also that of a decision-maker. Most of Akatsuki's operations were planned by her. Unfortunately, that was merely the surface. In truth, Black Zetsu and Obito had been secretly guiding Konan bit by bit in the direction they wanted her to go. Because of the unexpected variable that was Ronglin, Akatsuki's actions differed from those in the original story. They had not remained confined within little Kirigakure. Instead, after controlling Kirigakure's Daimyo and Mizukage Yagura, they shifted everything into Kirigakure, intending to slowly devour the entire village step by step, turn it into Akatsuki's main base, lay all the necessary groundwork, and prepare for the Infinite Tsukuyomi.

If Ronglin had not appeared as an unexpected factor, Black Zetsu would certainly have acted as he had in the original story. That way, he would not have drawn anyone's attention. One only had to look at the original story to know that the major ninja villages had been completely in the dark about everything concerning Akatsuki.

But now, everything had changed. Black Zetsu had to worry about Ronglin's existence. Although Ronglin had promised not to interfere with their plans, after countless years of preparation, Black Zetsu would not allow any accidents.
