Surprise? Unexpected?

In the first leg of the Champions League semifinal, Bayern visited Old Trafford to challenge Manchester United.

The match had barely begun when Manchester United took the initiative, applying heavy pressure to Bayern's midfield and defense. After Rooney won the ball high up the pitch, he used his body to force Lahm aside before driving to the byline and crossing.

In front of goal, Tevez and Rony made simultaneous runs, one ahead of the other. But Neuer came decisively off his line and plucked the ball out of the air, looking extremely composed and giving United's attackers no chance.

Even so, Manchester United's attack won thunderous applause from the crowd.

After that attempt failed, Manchester United quickly organized another attack.

Rony received the ball on the right and charged toward Marcelo's flank. He suddenly stopped on the right side of the penalty area and cut the ball back toward the edge of the box.

Tevez rushed into the penalty area and overran it, but Rooney quickly moved toward the top of the arc. Meeting Rony's cross, he unleashed a fierce shot that went just over the crossbar.

A wave of gasps swept through the stadium, followed immediately by thunderous applause.

Less than two minutes later, Anderson controlled the ball in midfield and sent a highly penetrating pass diagonally to the left side of the edge of the penalty area, finding Evra arriving from behind.

The French left-back crossed first time, looking for Rooney, but Lahm got a touch to block it.

The ball remained at Evra's feet. After controlling it, the Frenchman cut inside past Lahm and unleashed a fierce left-footed shot.

The ball flew over the bar again.

In less than four minutes after kickoff, Manchester United had created three shooting opportunities.
