A Double Award Bonanza

The sound of the electric kettle boiling in the kitchen startled Su Dong awake in the bedroom.

His first reaction was that everything felt unfamiliar.

The bed beneath him was not the soft one he knew so well. It was slightly hard and rather small, and the room around him was not his familiar bedroom either—just plain white walls. Even the blackout curtains on the window were not very effective, at best blocking only half the light.

A moment later, another faint sound came from the kitchen.

The soundproofing was terrible. Even though Wang Chuqing was trying to move as quietly as possible, she still made some noise, reminding Su Dong as he lay in bed that this was not his mansion in Cheshire, but a small apartment near the world-famous Oxford University.

Su Dong had suddenly come south from Cheshire the night before and quietly slipped over, hoping to surprise Wang Chuqing.

He had succeeded in surprising her, but she had prepared absolutely nothing for him at home. Never mind clothes—even underwear, slippers, and toiletries were missing. It was rather awkward.

Fortunately, Wang Chuqing rented the place alone. The two of them had been living together shamelessly for so long that naturally, there was nothing to worry about.

Oxford University had rental housing specifically prepared for students like Wang Chuqing. Even students bringing their entire families could live there without a problem. However, the conditions of the school-provided housing were not very good. For example, the ceilings were rather low, and Wang Chuqing did not particularly like that.

So she rented a place outside on her own.

From choosing the university to enrolling after being accepted, and then finding a place to live and starting school, she had handled everything herself. That made Su Dong feel rather ashamed.
