Although Man City controlled possession and the tempo of the match, they still failed to breach Notts County's goal. Instead, in the fifty-ninth minute, Notts County took advantage of a corner and scored.
But that goal completely jolted Man City awake.
Soon afterward, Džeko scored with a header, then Adam Johnson seized an opportunity to score, turning the game around for Man City.
In the end, Man City came from behind to beat Notts County 2–1 away and advance to the fifth round.
