Angel received a cold glance from Fafnir.
At the same time, a gust of unwarranted wind swept over him, making his cheeks sting faintly.
Angel sighed inwardly. It was not as though he had said she could not come along. In fact, he very much hoped Fafnir would go with him. Her combat strength was there for all to see; with the weight of Fafnir's power to intimidate them, ordinary riffraff would not dare come looking for trouble.
Yet Fafnir seemed to have no intention of traveling with him. She merely followed from afar. Even if Angel ran into danger, she would only watch coldly from a distance.
Angel could not quite understand what Fafnir meant by this.
Did she want to see how an ant struggled to survive in the Abyss? Or was she planning to write a human observation diary?
No matter how much he grumbled inwardly, he would get no answer. Angel could only shake his head and continue onward. If she wanted to follow, then let her follow. At any rate, she would not kill him now, would she?
When Angel flew toward the Layer-Crossing Gate, Fafnir hesitated for a moment before ultimately following him.
Fafnir was following Angel only because she wanted to know why Odecras had entrusted such a task to a human apprentice. He had even given him a Flame Mark.
Moreover, Fafnir knew very well that if she wished to see Odecras, he certainly would not be willing to see her. But if Angel could complete Odecras's task and earn his friendship, perhaps he could persuade Odecras to see her?
It was because of that expectation that Fafnir decided to follow Angel and take a look.
Besides, she had nothing else urgent to do at present.
Within the cloud-wreathed canyon, Angel stood
