Two things happened in Gust Town today.
The first happened this morning, when Madam Martin, who had been herding sheep at the pasture by the town entrance, suddenly vanished without a trace.
Since Madam Martin was a devout believer, Bolunlang had gone to the pasture with the sheriff early that morning because of the incident. After searching all day, they still failed to find where Madam Martin had gone.
However, blood and bits of flesh had appeared near the place where Madam Martin vanished. Though they could not yet confirm whether those scraps were human tissue, the sheriff was not optimistic about Madam Martin's situation.
That was also why Bolunlang had not been at the church all day.
The second thing was that Anthony, the nine-year-old youngest son of Sansi the tailor, had died.
The two incidents had no direct connection, but Madam Martin's disappearance that morning had thrown all of Gust Town into a panic, and Sansi the tailor had been affected as well. When she finished cooking that evening and went to call Anthony to eat, she found that he was gone. Anthony was usually mischievous, and Sansi did not strictly restrain him. When he got hungry, he would come home to eat on his own.
But today, because of what had happened to Madam Martin, Sansi the tailor had a foreboding feeling in her heart. Only after asking Anthony's usual playmates did she learn that Anthony had not played with them at all that day. They had assumed Sansi had punished him and forbidden him from leaving the house.
After learning this, Sansi the tailor's unease grew even stronger, and she hurried to seek help from the sheriff.
