Toby's gaze was resolute. Facing the torrent that churned up monstrous waves, it showed not the slightest fear. Like a fearless warrior, it plunged headfirst into the encirclement of negative emotions.
Its movements were light and nimble as it continuously weaved through the rushing current formed of tangled malicious thoughts.
In the eyes of the Extreme Grudge Intent, Toby's speed was not hindered in the slightest by the torrent. Not only did it meet the torrent head-on, it flew upstream against it!
If the Extreme Grudge Intent could have taken human form, it would probably have been wondering in bewilderment, "Why is this surging torrent completely useless against it?"
Only Toby could answer that question.
This torrent of negative emotions was not useless against Toby. Toby was not having an easy time either. It was as though countless people were whispering curses into its ears; its heart was oppressed, aching to cry out and erupt. Yet it did not stop or hesitate. Its goal was clear, and it charged straight toward the bright shore beyond.
It could ignore the oppression in its mind, the scolding around it, and the temptation of resentment only because it had separated its sense of self from its own feelings.
This was the experience it had gained from braving the torrent countless times within the Heart House.
This torrent was like a swamp filled with rotten mud. Once one became entangled with a certain emotion, it was equivalent to sinking into the mire—the more agitated and indignant one became, the deeper one sank. Thus, after being defeated by the torrent many times, Toby had drawn its conclusion: do not try to fight negative emotions, nor let any negative emotion lure you in. Only by racing toward your goal could you break free from this torrent
