The outside world, Devil Sea, Sidro Island.
After enduring several consecutive days of ocean storms, the sky finally cleared. Hungry and exhausted, a sand rat burrowed in and out of the sand, trying to find food.
Before long, it dug up a fat, hairy caterpillar in its mouth. Thrilled, it raced wildly, wanting to return to its burrow and enjoy its meal.
Its burrow was on the coastal highlands. There were detestable seagulls there, but no humans.
But today, as the sand rat raced toward the highlands with its food in its mouth, it suddenly ran into a human.
Had a human come up the mountain?
But there had not been a trace of any human in front of it just moments ago!
The sand rat's tiny mind simply could not understand how this black human had suddenly appeared. Still, no matter how low its intelligence, the sand rat understood one rule of survival: humans had to be avoided.
Without hesitation, it prepared to flee into the shrubs. Yet before it could run, it discovered that its legs seemed broken and could not move at all.
It lowered its head and saw that its legs were charred black. Half of its body was charred black as well.
It was as though it had been roasted over a fire.
But it had never gone near a fire. It had merely accidentally bumped into a human's foot... or rather, a skirt?
Unable to move, the little sand rat used what little wisdom it possessed to ponder what had happened to it. Before it could figure anything out, however, it felt its tail being pinched between two fingers with sharp black nails.
