Scallion egg fried rice?
At first, Xixia refused. Though she had never heard of this food, she despised eggs. No matter how they were prepared, she always found them fishy. Of course, if they were made by a gourmet wizard, that would be another matter. But one look at Head Maid Mana told her that she was an ordinary middle-aged woman; there was no way she possessed a gourmet wizard's skill.
Most importantly, she had seen a whole pot of oil in the kitchen, used to make the shredded egg, and felt even more repulsed.
Ever since childhood, she had disliked overly oily food. She always felt that oil carried a raw taste. Rawness and fishiness—the two flavors she hated most had actually come together, filling her with resistance both physically and mentally.
If not for Head Maid Mana's enthusiasm, she would probably have turned around and left by now.
But no matter how enthusiastic Head Maid Mana was, she did not want to eat any scallion egg fried rice. She was already considering what tactful, inoffensive excuse she could use to decline Mana's invitation.
Perhaps saying she was full would be appropriate?
Yet before Xixia found the right moment to voice her refusal, Head Maid Mana was already smiling as she brought over a porcelain plate piled high with golden grains of rice and placed it before her.
As she breathed in the enticing aroma and looked at the fine shreds of egg wrapped around the long grains of rice, accented by the fresh green of the scallions, Xixia—who had still been planning to refuse—felt that familiar sensation for the second time that day: her mouth watered.
The first time had been when she drank the creamy mushroom soup.
"Quick, have a taste. I specially brought you a spoon.
