Demonic beast cards came in three rarities: blue, purple, and gold.
Gold was the rarest.
A complete card capsule machine contained one hundred cards: eighty-five blue cards, ten purple cards, and five gold cards.
Gleipnir had only one chance to insert a coin, giving her roughly a five percent chance of drawing a gold card.
The odds were not hopeless, but pulling one on the first try was far from easy.
"Astrologer Granny: I didn't draw a gold card. I only got a blue one."
There was no doubt about it. Gleipnir had failed the challenge at the first location.
Having lost the opening round, Gleipnir was not discouraged. This quest used a scoring system; one failure did not matter, as long as she could score over eighty points in the end.
So, Gleipnir immediately began the second challenge.
There were nine locations throughout the city, with no fixed order for the challenges. She could tackle whichever one she wanted first. Following the principle of proximity, Gleipnir chose a location at an underground lake.
This underground lake connected to the Underground Waterway, and its waters teemed with life.
The second challenge took place aboard a canoe on the underground lake.
The canoe was moored at the shore. Challenger had to row it to the center of the lake and fish using the rod on board.
The fishing time limit was ten minutes. The quality and number of fish caught during those ten minutes would determine the final score.
Compared to the card draw just now, this challenge was much more comfortable.
Ten minutes was plenty of time, and the schools of fish beneath the water were relatively dense. Perhaps because they had lived underground for so long, they were rather foolish.
They bit at any bait and swayed at any
