While Liriel was still wondering how they were supposed to answer separately, the faint mist around Nomephins slowly spread, enveloping them.
With only a blink, Liriel felt herself transported from the cramped corridor to a bustling city street teeming with people.
It was a city Liriel had never seen before, and the clothing of the passing crowds was strange.
Some wore a great deal, while others wore very little, yet without exception, every outfit carried a strong sense of design.
Towering buildings surrounded them, neon lights flickered everywhere, and the style was entirely different from that of the Southern Region.
It looked incomparably prosperous, but the low-hanging, gloomy Black Cloud overhead gave her an inexplicable sense of discomfort.
The dark clouds slowly spread.
As raindrops fell, the masses panicked and lost control.
In an instant, time froze.
She saw the shock and terror on the faces of the surrounding crowd as they faced the raindrops, as though demons lurked within the rain. She also saw people turning to flee, their unease and fear laid bare by frozen time.
Why were they afraid of rain? And where was this place?
Hadn't she been before the Wall of Questions? Why had she suddenly arrived in a strange world?
The time stop affected only the people and scenery around her, not Liriel. She could still move...
And she was not the only one who could move. Across the street, a man in black holding an umbrella was walking toward her step by step.
When the man in black drew near, he slowly lifted the umbrella, and Liriel discovered in surprise that he wore a sphinx mask.
After hesitating for a moment, she asked, "Are you... Nomephins?"
