Earlier, they had caught the scent of pinewood released by burning candle flames in a wall sconce along one corridor.
After several days of treasure-hunting trials, they had immediately grown alert—within this Interrogation Labyrinth, any abnormality was bound to signify some clue, such as the whereabouts of a treasure chest.
After repeated experiments, they had finally confirmed the answer: the pinewood fragrance was guiding them onward.
Whenever they extinguished a pinewood-scented candle, its fragrance would disregard the wind and actively point them toward the next source of pinewood fragrance. Following it all the way, they had already found and extinguished four such candles.
And the wall sconce before them was where the fifth pinewood fragrance could be found.
"I'll put it out." Liriel stepped forward voluntarily and took something resembling a perfume spray bottle from her pocket.
She aimed the perfume bottle at the flame and pressed it.
A mist of water carrying a faint glow burst forth.
In only moments, the burning flame gradually dimmed until it vanished entirely.
"There's still nearly half a bottle left. The margin for error is pretty high." Liriel shook the perfume bottle, heard the sloshing water within, and muttered softly.
This perfume bottle was called the "Floating Lion Saliva Bottle." They had obtained it from an earlier treasure chest.
According to its description, it contained the saliva of some existence, and its use was unknown.
Liriel had initially found it rather disgusting, but later discovered that the water inside the saliva bottle could extinguish candleholders, oil lamps, and even the lingering embers in the cores of mechanical alchemical Demonic Beasts.
These flames were essentially bound to the labyrinth's rules. They could not extinguish them with their own power.
Yet many puzzles required them to put out flames.
