Liriel tried to observe everyone's expressions, but the moment she raised her head, she silently lowered it again.
Some were statues, their faces hidden beneath stone cloaks; some had only eyes, while others had faces veiled by flames... Apart from the Decayer, she could not see anyone else's expression at all.
As for the Decayer, though he seemed to be listening, his gaze drifted from time to time, as if he might have slipped back into nothingness.
