Killing Intent in the Shadows

As Angel gathered up Haska's potions, he found one bottle without a label. The dark green liquid did not seem particularly remarkable, yet it somehow gave off a heavy, unfathomable feeling that drew the eye.

Angel identified it with the Eye of Nalda, and the result surprised him greatly.

"Withered Vigil." This was actually an intermediate potion—and an extraordinarily special one at that.

Its effect was described in a single sentence: "Reduces life expenditure and can effectively extend one's lifespan."

That effect seemed rather ordinary, hardly enough to uphold the prestige of an intermediate potion. Yet when Angel saw the note beneath it, his eyes lit up.

"Using this potion will not consume any potential. However, while the potion is in effect, the body will undergo severe withering, and one's physique will become as frail as that of an ordinary mortal. This effect is reversible. The maximum lifespan extension is one hundred years."

The fact that it consumed no potential alone was enough to justify its quality as an intermediate potion. By reducing the body's expenditure and squeezing out a full century of life, it was the most powerful life-extending potion Angel currently possessed.

Moreover, because it did not consume potential, it could be used alongside other life-extending potions. For many wizard apprentices stuck before the great barrier, this was an incomparably precious potion.

Withered Vigil would always wait for the sweet promise of spring returning to the earth.

This potion alone could perhaps fetch tens of thousands of magic crystals at an auction. Angel had not expected to acquire such a precious potion here.

However, this also made Angel even more wary. The reason Haska had calmly recorded notes on paper was largely because he did not lack for lifespan. He believed that, with his remaining years and this
