What Jiebo had in mind were the alchemists he knew—or rather, the unwritten conventions alchemists displayed to the outside world.

None of that was wrong, of course. But Jiebo did not understand that Angel's path as an alchemist differed greatly from other orthodox lineages. He had received almost no formal alchemical instruction. Although Angel knew some of those unwritten conventions, no one had ever forced him to follow them, so he generally did as he pleased.

Take alchemy notes, for example. He would write notes after finishing an alchemical creation, but he only ever recorded the doubts he had encountered during the process and flaws that could be improved in the future. He had never documented the entire process in such exhaustive detail as other alchemists did.

If Jiebo had spent more time with Angel, he might have discovered these subtle details. But for now, all he could do was judge by the rules of traditional alchemists.

After hearing Jiebo's words, Siliwu naturally understood what he meant. Yet after giving an "Mm," he continued, expression unchanged, to demand that Jiebo follow Angel. It was as though everything Jiebo had just said had been nothing but useless empty words.
