What happened to the promised "useless thing"?!
Hatching would have been one thing, but Angel had actually said it was a suspected mother worm!
Kant felt as though the defenses in his heart were a collapsing wall of snow, flaking away bit by bit to expose a mottled, aged heart beneath.
"A mother worm? How could that be possible?! Mother worms went extinct even earlier than Shapeshifting Softworms. There can't possibly be any fish that slipped through the net." Kant spoke stiffly.
"But if it isn't a mother worm, why can it lay eggs and hatch them?" Angel asked in confusion.

Kant was rendered speechless. Though every fiber of his being resisted the possibility that he had once given away a "mother worm egg," he could not help peering into the nest.
The moment he looked, he was completely dumbfounded.
Before his gaze even reached the deepest part, merely seeing the layers upon layers of Soft-State Worm corpses around the outside had already confirmed one fact in his heart.
Back then, he had only given Angel a few worm eggs, but look at these Soft-State Worm corpses—there were at least dozens of them!
Without a mother worm to breed new eggs, there was simply no way to explain this!
When he clearly saw the hall deep inside the nest containing that "snot monster," he immediately closed his eyes and began cursing his former self for mistaking a pearl for a fish eye.
This was the mother worm of the Soft-State Worms!
It was exactly the same as what had been
