Ch. 161Kabane Virus Trial Again!

Dr. Fritz and the Addison Senior Director tested the Kabane Virus on prisoners and a volunteer, learning that Mike Forsen’s Haki delayed but could not prevent his transformation. After Mike became a Kabane and was killed for examination, the researchers injected Hawthorne, leaving Steve Guts to be tested last.

  • The Addison Senior Director introduced Mike Forsen, Hawthorne, and Steve Guts, explaining that Guts volunteered in hopes of freeing his imprisoned brother.
  • Dr. Fritz arranged for Mike Forsen to receive the first injection of the Kabane Virus, and blue light spread through his body and brain.
  • Mike Forsen resisted the virus for a little over five minutes before turning into a Kabane, and Dr. Fritz concluded that awakened Haki offered some resistance to the virus’s brain invasion.
  • A Black-Clad Man struck Mike Forsen’s heart repeatedly with Armament Haki-enhanced Shigan before piercing it on the fifth strike, and a researcher recorded the result.
  • The researcher injected Hawthorne with the Kabane Virus while Steve Guts waited to be tested last.

Ch. 162Kabaneri Warriors of the World Government!

Dr. Fritz’s team tested the Kabane Virus on Hawthorne and Steve Guts, discovering that Zoan transformation could preserve the body but leave the subject’s consciousness replaced, while Guts survived by controlling the virus’s spread with Life Return. Guts left the test transformed into a Kabaneri warrior and revealed that the ordeal had awakened his Observation Haki.

  • Hawthorne transformed into a Kangaroo-man after Dr. Fritz injected him with the Kabane Virus, and the virus’s spread slowed.
  • Hawthorne lost his human consciousness and behaved like a kangaroo, so Dr. Fritz ordered him removed and returned to Impel Down after further checks.
  • Team Leader Ron injected Guts with the virus, and Guts endured the burning pain as it changed his heart and strengthened his body.
  • Guts used Life Return to stop the glowing blood in his left carotid artery from reaching his brain, while his body formed a metallic biological exoskeleton.
  • Dr. Fritz celebrated Guts’s survival and concluded that strong Haki or physically blocking the artery could help control the virus; Guts warned about the pain and said he had awakened Observation Haki.

Ch. 163Doflamingo Was Incredibly Useful!

Imu reviewed reports on the World Government’s economic and construction projects and considered how to address their labor shortages while releasing the people imprisoned at Tequila Wolf. He settled on using Impel Down prisoners for labor and began thinking of someone Doflamingo could provide for the construction effort.

  • Imu reviewed reports on economic reforms, construction projects, and a request to transfer workers from Tequila Wolf.
  • Imu decided to release Tequila Wolf’s common people but keep the East Blue bridge project going because of the prophesied tsunami.
  • Imu considered hiring Fish-Man and Merfolk workers to lay Water Seven’s sea rails and using mechanized animals for other construction work.
  • Imu proposed putting lower-level Impel Down prisoners under Taklama’s control as a labor force.
  • Imu reasoned that freeing Tequila Wolf’s people could win public support while bringing their new kingdom under World Government control.
  • Imu recalled that Doflamingo might provide useful construction talent.

Ch. 164Important Directives from the World Government!

Mata and Laskey infiltrated the Iron Fortress and gathered information about its passengers and the Kabaneri. At Star Gate Base, Senior Director Addison received orders to stop Biba Amatori and prepare CP9 to attack the Hunters at Iwato Station.

  • Mata and Laskey posed as refugees from Europa and blended in with the civilians aboard the Iron Fortress, which was being towed by the Kokujo.

  • The Five Elders discussed relocating the Land of Disobedience's citizens and replacing them with prisoners to build the bridge, and Imu ordered a basic shipyard established in Kabane World using local materials.
  • Imu rejected bringing in shipwrights from Water Seven because he wanted to keep the Star Gate World secret.
  • Imu ordered the Judiciary to accelerate its Ministry of Police and transfer the Navy's Bounty Research Bureau, and Saint Jaygarcia Saturn explained that construction delays and the Navy's refusal to provide troops were slowing the plan.
  • Saint Shepherd Ju Peter and the military representatives objected to the Ministry of Police's growing authority over criminal cases and CIPHER POL operations.

Ch. 166At the Supreme Command of the Armed Forces Meeting!

Imu ordered the Ministry of Police to be established in affiliated nations, despite the resistance it would face. At a Supreme Command of the Armed Forces meeting, the leaders read a thick packet of documents, and Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro opened discussion on the Star Gate.

  • Imu ordered a pilot police framework in affiliated nations of the Grand Line’s first half, police stations in every affiliated nation’s capital by December of next year, and at least ten thousand marines transferred to the force.
  • Emori arrived first at the Supreme Command meeting, where Zambalong V. Nusjuro told him the subject concerned the Holy Land Garrison but was not essentially about him.

  • Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro assigned the General Staff responsibility for coordination, logistics, equipment, and military spending, and Tsuru realized her promotion would likely take her away from Marine Headquarters.

Ch. 168Two Updates, Supreme Command of the Armed Forces Meeting, Part Two!

Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro announced major Three Armies appointments and tried to persuade Sakazuki to join the Army, arguing that conquering other worlds could address the causes of piracy. The chapter ended with Sakazuki reacting in shock when Nusjuro asked whether the Army should be entrusted to former pirates like Douglas Bullet or Crocodile.
