The end result was Umbrella successfully mastering the latest consciousness transfer technology, along with a series of related technologies.
When an Umbrella-affiliated soldier suffered irreversible injuries and was on the verge of death, consciousness transfer technology could be used to perform surgery, transferring the soldier's consciousness into a clone body.
In theory, the soldier had undergone a "body-swap" operation.
Since the clone body was derived from the soldier's own body, there would be no rejection response whatsoever.
The reason this technology's development was limited—and the only reason—was its excessive cost, which essentially ruled out the possibility of ordinary people undergoing the procedure.
But this was not a problem for Umbrella employees. The benefits for C-rank employees and above included comprehensive medical coverage.
However, the procedure's success rate was not one hundred percent. There was still a thirty percent chance of failure,
and the company did not encourage employees to undergo it. After all, even a clone of one's own body still could not compare to the original.
If a senior operative suffered permanent physical disability from injecting the Black Tyrant serum and insisted on undergoing consciousness transfer surgery, the company would consider and approve the request on a case-by-case basis.
Note: Li Mu, a senior operative who had already retired to a clerical position, had not applied to the company for consciousness transfer surgery.
