• Rebecca and Halsey learned that the Gravemind had used Flood Spores in a clone’s spinal cord to deceive Elizabeth Green, and William’s leaders recognized the danger of underestimating it.
• Serena showed the commanders a lake forty kilometers north of the base and explained that it contained an entrance to the Shield World’s interior, where the Forerunner Dreadnought Fleet lay.

• William ordered the elite troops to assemble at the airport and assigned Kolax and Prus to defend the surface base and prepare for evacuation.
• Serena agreed to assist William from inside his Power Armor and notified Miranda Carter to outfit the Amber’s crew in airtight suits.
• William arrived at the airport with Ivan, Nova, Hia, and Megan, and the Amber arrived to transport the assembled force.

• The Templar Defenders scanned the Amber, showed no hostility, and guided it through the Shield World’s outer framework.
• Miranda piloted the Amber through an exit into the Shield World’s interior, where the crew saw its artificial sun, Dyson Sphere, and surrounding landscapes.
• Serena explained that the Forerunners’ technology controlled the artificial star’s energy and illumination to make the interior habitable.
• Serena theorized that the Precursors had deliberately allowed the Forerunners to attack them and had intended humanity to inherit the galaxy.

William led a ground force to a Forerunner aerial starport to investigate a fleet of forty-four Dreadnought Warships, which Serena suspected were drones. After learning that most personnel were evacuating and the Flood threat was limited, William prepared to approach the starport’s central control console with Halsey’s help.

• Serena reported that the forty-four Dreadnought Warships appeared to be Warship-class Drones, and William ordered the Amber to approach their aerial starport.
• William and the ground forces boarded a Pelican and landed on the starport, where he warned everyone to stay alert while they secured the warships for humanity.

• The Gravemind offered to cooperate and claimed it knew the Eternal One’s location, but William refused and ordered Carmen to launch four Tactical missiles at the Shield World.
• Halsey explained that the Eternal One, also called the Primordial Foundation, was the first recorded Gravemind and had formed when a Forerunner became its material.
• The Gravemind pleaded for its survival, but William dismissed its promises and the four Quantum Bombs destroyed the Shield World and the Gravemind.

Andre announced that humanity had won the Human-Covenant War, despite severe human losses, and explained that the purple object in Earth's orbit was the captured Covenant capital. He then introduced Sangheili leader General Enzo Saum to explain why Sangheili had been seen fighting alongside human forces.

• Andre reported that the war began after The Observer fought the Covenant at Bountiful Star and described humanity's casualties and lost colonies.
• Andre revealed that the Covenant had suffered enormous losses, its capital the City of Brotherly Love had fallen, and humanity had achieved an absolute victory.
• A FOX reporter asked about the purple mushroom in Earth's orbit, and Andre identified it as the captured Covenant capital.
• A reporter asked why Sangheili were fighting alongside human forces, and Andre introduced General Enzo Saum to answer.

Andre introduced General Enzo Saum and announced that the Sangheili would join human society alongside other races that followed them. He showed footage of Sangheili warriors saving humans during the Battle of Rigel, but the chapter ended before he finished his appeal to the reporters.

• Andre revealed that the Sangheili had allied with humanity, and Saum entered the conference hall with his guards.
• Andre introduced Saum and announced that the Sangheili and other allied races would become part of human society.
• Saum said the Sangheili had been deceived by the Prophet Clan and swore that humanity would remain their friend.

After Andre announced plans to rebuild the colonies, welcome alien immigrants, and eliminate the Alien Forces, William’s family relaxed at home. Ivan asked whether his parents would accept a much older daughter-in-law, and William revealed he had already guessed Ivan was involved with Athena.

• Saum told reporters that the Sangheili had suffered under the Alien Forces and would stand with humanity in future crises.
• Andre announced plans to revive the colonies’ economies, set immigration policies for alien races, counterattack the Alien Forces, and expand beyond the Orion Arm.
• Yelena soothed her baby brother Arthur, and Halsey praised her for caring for him.
• Ivan tried to leave the living room, but William questioned him and Ivan asked whether his parents would accept a daughter-in-law much older than them.
• William guessed that Ivan was thinking of bringing Athena into the Russell family, startling Ivan.

Ivan asked William for advice on managing his feelings for several girls, and William warned him that Xia’s devotion and Athena’s views on love could complicate things. Xia then arrived and shyly invited Ivan to a movie, leaving him puzzled by her sudden nervousness.

• William told Ivan that he had pursued nearly a hundred women in his youth but could not advise him on balancing his relationships with Nova, Xia, Athena, and Megan.
• William said Xia had always been devoted to Ivan and advised him not to betray her, then went upstairs to rest with Halsey and his younger son.

• William proposed that Ivan marry Xia and Nova on the same day, and he declared the arrangement settled despite Ivan and Xia’s objections.
• On February 1, 2027, the five Umbrella-led warship groups advanced beyond the Orion Arm to defeat Covenant remnants and occupy former Covenant colonies.
• Hundreds of millions of Sangheili and other former Covenant species arrived in the Solar System seeking to immigrate, and William approved their applications under work and confidentiality agreements.
• William and Saum persuaded the Sangheili high commanders to sign confidentiality agreements and join the human military system.

William discussed forming a political entity for humanity and the allied alien races with Andre and Saum. Saum insisted that the Sangheili receive formal representation in the UEG, while William raised the unresolved question of whether they would accept human military commanders.

• William stayed in Halifax City to discuss a new political structure with Andre and Saum instead of traveling to Kenya.

William told Serena to curb hateful remarks about extraterrestrial races, but she instead flirted with him and asked him to help relieve her pent-up feelings. He refused to resume their sexual relationship, then helped her before taking her to dinner in Hafa City.

At Kenya Base, Umbrella prepared an Engineering Team and research convoy to help Halsey excavate Forerunner Ruins outside Mombasa. Ivan, Halsey, and the Marines departed aboard Pelicans for the site.

• Kenya Base supplied Earth's near-orbit defenses through its Orbital Elevator and prepared Engineering Team units for the Mombasa excavation.
• Pelicans carried the engineering units toward Mombasa, where Umbrella had developed a thriving city and port.
• The Phantom hovered over downtown Mombasa with Halsey, Ivan, Xia, Nova, and Marines aboard for the excavation mission.
• Ivan told Major Rico to address him by rank or by his name, and Halsey arrived asking when they could leave.
• Rico's Marines finished loading Halsey's research equipment, boarded the Pelicans, and flew toward the outskirts of Mombasa.

Halsey used Megan’s scans to locate a buried Forerunner structure near Mombasa, and engineering teams excavated it in preparation for a journey to the Ark. With William and the fleet gathered, Halsey activated the ruin’s portal.

• Halsey ordered Megan to scan the savanna and reconstruct the ancient terrain, and Megan discovered a vast circular artificial structure.
• Halsey summoned Engineering Teams from across Africa to excavate the site within four days and asked Megan to notify William.
• The Engineering Teams uncovered a Forerunner ruin two hundred meters beneath Mombasa, revealing a huge plaza and six groups of triangular structures.
• William arrived with a fleet of one Star Killer-class Flagship and six Dreadnought Warships, and Halsey activated the ruin’s portal.

The ruins beneath Mombasa opened a portal, and William’s fleet traveled through it to the Forerunners’ Ark. The fleet arrived in a vast region overlooking the Milky Way, where Serena began surveying the Ark and its surroundings.

• The ruins unfolded into a matrix and opened a dark-blue portal above Mombasa, which swallowed the Star Killer-class Flagship and six Dreadnought Warships.
• William, Halsey, John, Mylon, and the crew saw the enormous petal-shaped Ark and the Milky Way beyond it.
• William ordered Carmen to investigate the Space Sector and Serena to scan the Ark.
• Serena reported that the Ark’s central region was about 130,000 kilometers in diameter and contained a ruined Earth-like Planet.

• Halsey said encounters with the Reapers, the Mimics, and the Covenant showed that none of the equation’s factors was zero, and cited an estimate of about eleven planets with higher civilizations in the Milky Way.
• William asked how many civilizations existed in the universe, and Halsey answered that their number was infinite across the observable universe.
• Halsey explained that the Forerunners and Ancient Humans had reached Tier 3 with the Precursors' guidance, while civilizations that reached Tier 3 independently were exceedingly rare.
