Ch. 1The System

William Russell woke in Halifax after apparently dying from alcohol poisoning and discovered that he had inherited a wealthy but declining family and a devoted guardian, Andre Kapushkin Ostrovsky. As Andre drove him home, a system warned William that supernatural threats would eventually destroy all living things and the Earth.

  • William awoke on a park bench and recalled that the previous owner of his body had died after drinking too much.
  • William learned about the Russell Family’s decline and Andre’s history as his caretaker and bodyguard.
  • Andre found William, scolded him for staying out all night, and took him home in his car.
  • William apologized to Andre and considered the advantages of his new life as they drove toward the seaside.
  • A system finished loading and warned William that supernatural entities would grow stronger until they destroyed the Earth in seventeen years.

Ch. 2Umbrella

William learned that the system would help him develop his struggling timber-processing company if he renamed it Umbrella Corporation. With Andre’s support, he set out to pay the overdue property taxes and restart the business.

  • William heard the system issue a quest to rename the company Umbrella Corporation and activate its reward package.
  • Andre drove William home, where William showered and joined him for breakfast.
  • William told Andre he intended to revive the company and pay its overdue property taxes.
  • Andre said William’s father had left about six hundred thousand dollars, most of which William had spent, but offered nearly a million dollars of his own savings to support him.
  • William and Andre went to the Nova Scotia Provincial Government Office to pay two years of overdue property taxes and renamed Russell Enterprises Umbrella Enterprises (Umbrella Corporation).

Ch. 3Halsey

William trained to improve his health and attended summer classes while waiting for approval to rename his company. After the system renamed it Umbrella Corporation, it granted him Dr. Catherine Elizabeth Halsey, five billion dollars, and a mission to build private forces before supernatural threats appeared.

  • William followed Andre's exercise plan and enrolled in summer courses, rejecting his female classmates' advances.
  • On June 21, William checked the company-renaming application and the system announced that the company had become Umbrella Corporation.
  • The system awarded William Dr. Catherine Elizabeth Halsey, implanted as a professor at St. Mary's University, and promised she would accept recruitment without betraying him.
  • The system unlocked recruitment for the UBCS and USS, set a mission to recruit 100 UBCS members and 20 USS members, and warned that abnormal entities would begin appearing in 180 days.
  • William questioned where the system's five billion dollars came from, and the system explained that it had transferred the funds into his account as a hidden inheritance from Sears Russell.

Ch. 4The Nineteen-Year-Old Doctor

William met Professor Halsey at St. Mary's and recruited her to his company by promising to fund any research she wanted. As they waited for his driver, Halsey revealed she was only nineteen and already held two doctorates and a master's degree.

  • William went to Professor Halsey's lecture hall and discovered that the young teaching assistant was Halsey.
  • William asked Halsey to join his company, and she initially refused.
  • William promised to fund any research she wanted, prompting Halsey to accept and resign from St. Mary's.
  • William took Halsey to the university parking lot to wait for Andre to pick them up.
  • William mistook Halsey for someone in her twenties, and she angrily revealed her age and academic degrees.

Ch. 5Military Contractor

William recruited Catherine Halsey to help develop advanced treatments and a Super Soldier under his Spartan Program, meant to protect humanity from supernatural threats. At the factory, he showed Andre plans and documents for establishing a military contracting company, claiming he had inherited billions from his grandfather.

  • William told Halsey he wanted to hire her as a consultant and acquire a pharmaceutical company or private hospital.
  • In the car, William explained that supernatural threats existed and that his company would protect humanity by maintaining a balance with normal society.
  • William proposed the Spartan Program, a plan to create a Super Soldier, and Halsey accepted the idea and praised its codename.
  • William and Andre brought Halsey to the factory, where she saw the large property and its clean, empty workshop.
  • William gave Andre a document detailing requirements for a military contracting company, and Andre questioned where William had gotten the money for an ATF license.
  • William claimed his grandfather had left him another inheritance worth a few billion.

Ch. 6The Hive

William tasked Halsey with acquiring Dixon Hospital and designing a hidden research facility beneath Halifax City to support the Spartan Program. Halsey agreed to design the facility, which William named The Hive.

  • Andre accepted William’s funds, citing Lord Russell, and left to use his connections to secure a lawyer and a military contractor’s business license.
  • William asked Halsey to review the Biological Laboratory’s purchase list and approach Dixon Hospital about buying it.
  • Halsey outlined the dangerous procedures planned for creating Spartan super soldiers and asked William about his limits; he insisted that Sparta had to be created regardless.
  • William told Halsey he would build a vast underground research facility beneath Halifax City and explained his plans to win the city’s goodwill and keep the construction secret.
  • Halsey agreed to design the facility, and William named it The Hive.

Ch. 7The Umbrella Corporation Goes on the Offensive

William began turning Umbrella into a private military contractor, arranging permits, a military camp, recruits, and a hospital purchase. Thirty-two days later, the lumber mill had become a fully equipped military camp, while the hospital acquisition had cost far more than William expected.

  • William agreed to pay Frank’s law firm two million dollars to secure the permits for Umbrella to become a military contractor.
  • After Frank explained that an ATF-licensed consultant had to become a shareholder, William accepted the condition and Frank began applying for the necessary documents.
  • Halsey designed a camp for two hundred people, and William hired Wang Zhaofeng’s FlyChicken to build it, offering bonuses for early completion.
  • William told Andre to recruit one hundred regular troops and twenty special forces members from discharged soldiers and active-duty police officers who met his requirements.
  • Halsey persuaded Dixon and the hospital’s doctor shareholders to sell Dixon Private Hospital for two hundred million dollars, far above its estimated value.
  • Thirty-two days later, Umbrella’s camp was complete with barracks, training grounds, an urban-combat area, a shooting range, and a helicopter pad.

Ch. 8UBCS and USS

William completed Umbrella’s military camp, expanded the company’s presence in Halifax, and recruited its first private military force. The new operatives signed on under Andre’s command after William promised generous pay and benefits and told them Umbrella protected reality from unknown threats.

  • Wang Zhaofeng’s team completed the UBCS and USS camp in thirty-two days, and William awarded them an $800,000 bonus.
  • Frank obtained permission for Umbrella to recruit a private military force, and William renamed the hospital Umbrella General Hospital and housed Halsey’s laboratory there.
  • William donated twenty million dollars to improve Halifax City’s roads, earning public attention and the mayor’s thanks.
  • Andre gathered 120 veterans and active-duty police officers at the camp and had them sign contracts promising high salaries and secrecy.
  • William told the recruits they would serve as Umbrella operatives, offered bonuses and family benefits, and explained that Umbrella protected reality from unknown threats.
  • William scanned the recruits and found their loyalty and combat abilities met the requirements for USS recruitment.

Ch. 9Chapter Nine: Weapons

William organized the UBCS under Colonel Andre Kapushkin Ostrovsky and equipped them with a large shipment of weapons and gear. He announced that the twenty best recruits would join Umbrella Security Service after tests, beginning the competition that would decide the elite unit.

  • William introduced Andre Kapushkin Ostrovsky as the UBCS colonel and told the recruits they would start as privates, with promotions based on their missions.
  • William revealed he had ordered weapons, ammunition, body armor, helmets, night-vision goggles, and other equipment for the UBCS and USS.
  • Two heavy trucks delivered the shipment to the camp, and the UBCS unloaded the crates.
  • William told the 120 UBCS members that the twenty top performers in shooting, fitness, and mixed martial arts would join the USS with better pay and treatment.

Ch. 10Chapter Ten: Four Resident Evil Units

William completed the system mission, assimilated his UBCS and USS forces, and drew four Resident Evil rewards. With system permissions unlocked, he prepared to build containment facilities ahead of the first anomalous appearance.

  • William learned that his system funds had reset to $50 billion, with $500,000 available to him each month, and that the funding limit would reset every 120 days.
  • William assimilated his 100 UBCS members and 20 USS members, strengthening their loyalty and combat abilities.
  • William drew the Tyrant virus and vaccine, then obtained Optical Camouflage technology, which the system implanted into Catherine Elizabeth Halsey's memories.
  • William drew Hunk, the Grim Reaper, and the system modified the strongest existing USS member into him.
  • William obtained Umbrella's Engineering Team, which the system made into Umbrella Construction Company under Wang Zhaofeng and gave a rapid-construction skill.
  • The system unlocked all permissions, promised to reveal the first anomalous object's location and provide two draws after its containment, and clarified that company profits would not count as system funds.

Ch. 11Current Situation

William considered how Umbrella could grow wealthy and powerful while avoiding government hostility, then bought Marvel Comics and set plans for its film universe. He left Marvel under its new ownership and waited at Kennedy International Airport.

  • William reflected on the differences between this 2006 world and his original one, and weighed how Umbrella could expand without alarming governments.
  • William ruled out buying Bitcoin and considered making money on Wall Street before the 2007–2008 financial crisis.
  • William met with Marvel executives, including C. B. Cebulski, John Nee, and Stan Lee, and acquired the company and its IP rights for $300 million.
  • William told Marvel staff to keep working, required the Marvel name to be attached to Umbrella, and directed the company to portray Umbrella positively in its comics.
  • William chose Iron Man rather than Spider-Man as Marvel’s first cinematic-universe film, named Robert Downey Jr. for the lead role, and selected Kevin Feige as producer.

Ch. 12Chapter Twelve: Umbrella Advances

William expanded Umbrella’s operations by hiring James Cameron to make Starship Troopers 2, accelerating construction of a large military base, and buying the Dimaco arms company. He left the chapter preparing Umbrella to develop its own weapons and equipment while planning further military investments.

  • William moved up plans for a private jet and airport after a server approached him and Hunk’s bodyguards turned her away.
  • William met James Cameron in Washington and agreed to fund Starship Troopers 2, requiring the original cast to return and asking Cameron to bring Dizzy Flores back to life.
  • William ordered Wang Zhaofeng to speed up construction of a military base, The Hive, and containment facilities, while Andre expanded recruitment and trained the UBCS and USS.
  • William traveled to Hartford City and bought Ontario’s Dimaco from Colt for two hundred and fifty million dollars.
  • William planned for Halsey to use Dimaco’s factory to develop Umbrella weapons and equipment, including optical camouflage suits for the USS.

Ch. 13Six Months

Over six months, William expanded Umbrella through financial investments, medical research, construction, and arms purchases while preparing to exploit the coming financial crisis. He ended his tour in Ukraine with vast quantities of equipment and transport aircraft, as Umbrella continued to grow.

  • William borrowed Lehman Brothers shares to short-sell them, expecting the 2008 financial crisis to send their value crashing, and bought a major stake in Apple Inc.
  • William told Apple’s board to keep Steve Jobs in charge and arranged for Halsey to treat Jobs, slowing the worsening of his condition.
  • Wang Zhaofeng’s Engineering Team advanced construction of the private base, while Andre recruited personnel and Halsey used his genes to create a test body for T-Virus and vaccine experiments.
  • Dimaco became Umbrella Armament Company and moved its equipment and employees to Nova Scotia, where Halsey introduced optical camouflage designs and upgraded the workshop.
  • William bought an A380 from Airbus in France, then traveled to Ukraine and purchased tons of military equipment, five An-124 aircraft, and the original An-225 design manuscript from Nikolai Victor Ogryvsky.

Ch. 14Tyrant

Over six months, William expanded Umbrella across Canada, established its personnel hierarchy and built The Hive as a heavily guarded research facility. On January 27, 2007, Halsey showed William a controllable, mass-producible T-103 Tyrant, leaving him stunned by her success.

  • Umbrella became a Canadian corporate giant, while William secretly arranged for governments to hand serious criminals and death-row inmates over to the company as D-class personnel.
  • William established Umbrella's rank structure, placed himself above its directors, and set rules for armed forces to eliminate lower-ranked staff and destroy facilities if containment failed.
  • Umbrella expanded its forces and businesses, mass-produced costly optical camouflage uniforms, began filming Iron Man and Starship Troopers 2, and acquired shares in a Nova Scotia bank.
  • Wang Zhaofeng's engineering team completed The Hive according to Halsey's designs, with separate levels for armed forces, living areas, quarantine, research, and frozen storage.
  • On January 27, 2007, Halsey demonstrated a T-103 Tyrant to William and said it could be controlled completely and mass-produced.

Ch. 15Chapter Fifteen: Afraid? Not Afraid...

William watched Halsey demonstrate the controllable T-103 Tyrant and learned that only fourteen children met the Spartan Program’s genetic requirements. He agreed to have USS secretly replace them, but the system warned that anomalous phenomena were beginning to appear.

  • Halsey showed William that the T-103 could moonwalk on command, then explained that its genetic compatibility did not mean people could safely gain powers from the T-Virus.
  • William asked Halsey about the Spartan Program, and she reported that screening six million people had identified fourteen eligible children aged seven to eleven.
  • Halsey revealed that she had created defective clones of the children and implanted them with matching memories, and William agreed to arrange their secret replacement through USS.
  • Halsey teased William about the crime and asked whether he feared a federal investigation, but the system warned that it had been exactly 180 days since he opened the Novice Reward Pack and anomalous phenomena were beginning to appear.

Ch. 16SCP Appears

William learned that anomalous objects would begin appearing and that his agents would report their locations, though he would not receive details. After an agent in Alberta Province went missing, Andre confirmed the first anomalous incident, which the system identified as originating from the SCP Foundation; William headed for Troy Base with three T-103s.

  • William activated the system’s anomaly detection and learned that deployed agents would investigate anomalies and report their locations.
  • Hunk brought William to the Control Room, where Andre reported that an agent in Alberta Province had sent urgent intelligence before losing contact.
  • The system identified the first anomalous incident as originating from the SCP Foundation, and William told Andre he would go to Troy Base.
  • William ordered Hunk to prepare a convoy and asked Halsey how many T-103s were ready for deployment.
  • Halsey said three T-103s were available, so William ordered the technicians to send them to the surface and left the Hive.
  • After William left, Halsey blushed and giggled over his calling her Catherine.

Ch. 17Seventeenth Chapter: A Mass Death Incident

William and Umbrella’s forces prepared to investigate a mass-death incident in Athabasca, Alberta, after an agent reported widespread civilian deaths and went missing. Andre outlined a plan to send UBCS troops into the sealed town, but the anomalous entity remained unidentified.

  • William rode with Hunk and Alpha Squad from Umbrella General Hospital to the Troy military base, with three T-103 Tyrants transported in a heavy truck.
  • William met with Andre and UBCS officers in a hangar converted into an operations room.
  • Andre reported that an Umbrella agent had lost contact after reporting many civilian deaths in Athabasca, and that the Canadian Military had sealed off the town.
  • William asked how UBCS would handle the incident, and Andre proposed parachuting in a company to search for and contain or shoot the anomaly, followed by a helicopter-supported cleanup.

Ch. 18Chapter Eighteen: The First Containment Operation

William ordered the UBCS to contain any survivors in Athabasca and keep the incident secret, then sent the company and three Tyrants to begin Umbrella’s first large-scale containment operation. After parachuting into position around the town, Captain Mikhail Victor ordered his soldiers to search in squads and follow strict engagement rules.

  • William asked Colonel Andre about Athabasca’s population and survivors, then ordered the UBCS to classify survivors as D-Class and prevent news of the incident from spreading.
  • Two An-124 transport aircraft carried 120 UBCS soldiers and three Tyrants from Halifax toward Athabasca.
  • Captain Mikhail Victor rallied the soldiers aboard one aircraft before they began parachuting into the target area.
  • The UBCS company and three Tyrants spread out across three sides of Athabasca to encircle it.
  • Victor ordered his troops to use night vision, search in squads, and contain survivors or shoot hostile unknown creatures.

Ch. 19Chapter Nineteen: Target, Eliminated

William and Andre monitored UBCS forces sweeping Athabasca, where they discovered hostile corpses and a growing zombie outbreak. Company A and three Tyrants subdued the town, while Captain Victor captured a person wearing a heavy robe and bird-beak mask.

  • Andre ordered the Command Center to broadcast Captain Victor's squad as Company A began searching Athabasca.
  • Victor reported three pale, bloodstained people sitting motionless by candlelight, and his squad shot them when they turned hostile.
  • William had Company A activate its personal cameras and ordered Victor to examine one of the corpses, which looked like a zombie; William suspected SCP-049 and ordered a search for a robed person wearing a bird-beak mask.
  • The Command Center detected zombies attacking UBCS squads, and Andre ordered the soldiers to withdraw from the residential buildings as the Tyrants helped fight off the creatures.
  • Company A subdued Athabasca with the three Tyrants, suffered no casualties, and Captain Victor secured the person William had described.

Ch. 20Containment, Control

Umbrella declared its first Containment Operation a success after UBCS secured Athabasca and captured SCP-049. The company began transporting the Plague Doctor, three Tyrants, and the town’s survivors to Containment Center One as it prepared to establish a western base.

  • William celebrated the operation’s success with the Command Center staff, then handed command to Andre while the frontline soldiers awaited orders.
  • UBCS soldiers guarded the captured SCP-049 and gathered Athabasca’s surviving townspeople in the central plaza.
  • A technician told Victor that Umbrella planned to buy the land, build a western base, and have UBCS garrison the town.
  • Victor ordered one squad and three Tyrants to escort SCP-049 to Containment Center One, and the Plague Doctor agreed to cooperate.
  • The CH-53 carrying SCP-049 and the Tyrants flew north, while another helicopter transported the disinfected survivors to the Containment Center.
