The Football Association initially drafted two plans. One was to move the thirty-third round of league matches forward to the twenty-sixth.
The advantage of this plan was that it would cause minimal disruption. As long as Ajax's opponent, Graafschap, agreed and the other Eredivisie clubs did not object, it could be implemented. However, it would not make much difference to Ajax.
The thirty-second round of the Eredivisie was scheduled for Tuesday the twenty-third. In other words, if the thirty-third round were moved forward to Friday the twenty-sixth, Ajax would have to play two matches within four days, then travel to Camp Nou the following Wednesday, May 1, leaving only four days to recover in between.
