A Huang Earns His Keep!
As Bai Zhanji made the first move, the battle between the righteous and wicked sides officially began.
The distinction between good and evil was often a complicated and ambiguous matter, but here and now, it became exceedingly simple.
The three-man team with Ye Weiming was absolute justice. Their enemies were all heinous villains.
Because he was a righteous character—the protagonist!
The system indicated that the two players representing justice had entered combat mode. Yet aside from Lin Zhipei, who was already fighting Bai Zhanji, the other two bosses merely glared at the pair with hostile eyes and did not rush to attack.
This showed that even the shameless, black-hearted game designers felt a little embarrassed about pitting two players in their teens against two bosses in their twenties. They had not taken their shamelessness to the bitter end.
The fight still had to happen, of course, but they had at least left the two some room to maneuver.
For example, they could choose opponents suited to themselves.
After sweeping his gaze over the two bosses, Tang Sancai spoke in a chilling tone. "I hate rapists most in this life. Ji Laiye is mine."
"What a coincidence!" Ye Weiming gave the Green Bamboo Sword in his hand a flick and said leisurely, "I also hate rapists most in this life. Don't fight me for Ji Laiye. You can take the lower-level one."
Tang Sancai's expression shifted slightly. With a flick of his hand, he fired a concealed weapon.
Whoosh!
Clang!
Ji Laiye deftly flicked the concealed weapon aside with a finger, but Tang Sancai had thoroughly drawn his aggro. As Tang Sancai abruptly pulled away from Ye Weiming, Ji Laiye followed after him, chasing the Tang Sancai who had attacked him.
A knowing smile appeared on Ye Weiming's face, but he did not give chase.
In fact, in any online game, the thing ranged players feared most was a ranged boss. When all their attributes fell short of their opponent's, a ranged player could still rely on superior controls and range to kite a melee boss and slowly whittle down its HP. But against a ranged boss, those advantages vanished entirely.
Unless they were an oddball like Youyou, no ranged player would be interested in a ranged boss.
Judging by the way Ge Angshou casually toyed with several dice, he was clearly a concealed-weapon expert proficient in ranged attacks. Tang Sancai had chosen Ji Laiye because he feared that kind of all-around suppression.
Ye Weiming had only claimed Ji Laiye to tease him. He would not truly make things difficult for his teammate at a time like this.
By the time Ji Laiye and Tang Sancai had begun fighting in the dense forest, one chasing and the other fleeing, Ge Angshou finally fixed his gaze on Ye Weiming. "Kid, are you ready to die?"
Ye Weiming smiled faintly, took out a large piece of roasted meat from his bag, and bit into it first.
The fragrant, tender meat exploded with rich flavor in his mouth. It felt as though every cell in his body was cheering with delight. Once again, he could not help marveling at how realistic Eternal Chivalry was, as well as A Zhong's astonishing culinary skills.
Ding! You have eaten Roasted Wolf Meat. Satiety +1. Arm Strength +97 for one hour!
Hearing the system prompt, Ye Weiming forcibly suppressed the urge to eat his fill. He casually walked toward Ge Angshou and offered him the roasted meat. "Want a bite?"
Food buffs in Eternal Chivalry were divided into two aspects. The more one ate, the more satiety one gained. The 50 points of satiety from Roasted Wolf Meat represented the total amount provided by the entire piece, and it had to be eaten in full to receive it all. Additional attributes, however, worked like Devil Fruits: they only took effect with the first bite.
Feeling his Arm Strength more than double out of nowhere, Ye Weiming was ready for a proper fight.
Catching the aroma wafting from the roasted meat, Ge Angshou could not help swallowing. When he heard Ye Weiming invite him to taste it, his eyes lit up. By then, Ye Weiming had silently closed the distance between them to within thirty feet. Seeing the other man's reaction, the smile on his face grew even wider as he continued approaching at an unhurried pace.
Suddenly!
The greed on Ge Angshou's face vanished. With a wave of his hand, he shot out two dice. The instant they left his hand, they became two streaks of white light that flew straight at Ye Weiming's eyes.
If this attack landed, it would not only deal a double critical hit, but also inflict blindness!
So from the very beginning, Ge Angshou had not been fooled by Ye Weiming's food. Eating, drinking, whoring, and gambling were always mentioned together, but Ge Angshou was a devoted boss. Of those four pursuits, he was obsessed only with gambling. Nothing else could cloud his mind. His earlier display of greed had merely been an act to play along with Ye Weiming.
Ye Weiming's acting had not fooled him, and Ge Angshou's acting...
Naturally did not work on Ye Weiming either!
In fact, while Ye Weiming had tried to use food as a pretext to close the distance, he had remained alert for a sudden attack. Facing Ge Angshou's killing move now, aside from lamenting the failure of his plan, he felt little else. With a horizontal sweep of the Green Bamboo Sword, he shattered both dice at once. Then he casually put the roasted meat back into his bag, pushed Eight-Step Toad Leap to its limit, and charged toward Ge Angshou.
However, just as Tang Clan players who specialized in concealed weapons valued movement techniques above all else besides their Attack Power, Ge Angshou, as a ranged boss, possessed movement skills that were exceptional even among bosses. Though he was not quite as fast as Ye Weiming, the difference was slight.
Worse still, this fellow had none of the responsibility or self-awareness a boss ought to possess. He had no intention whatsoever of standing toe-to-toe with Ye Weiming. Instead, he copied Tang Sancai from the other side, shamelessly fleeing while continuously hurling dice at Ye Weiming.
A dignified boss was actually kiting a player!
Fortunately, Ye Weiming's Dragon-Phoenix Dance was powerful enough. Once its sword net was formed, Ge Angshou's dice could not cross it at all, much less stop Ye Weiming's pursuit.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!...
Smack! Smack! Smack!...
Amid the repeated clashes of sword and dice, the distance between them steadily shrank.
But just then, Ge Angshou suddenly shouted, "Flying Star Throw!" His hands moved rapidly, and in an instant, he launched more than ten dice at Ye Weiming in succession. The dice transformed into streaks of light the moment they left his hands, carrying piercing gusts as they shot toward Ye Weiming's entire body. They came like meteors chasing the moon, unstoppable in their momentum!
Dragon-Phoenix Dance alone could not block this attack!
Ye Weiming reached that conclusion the instant he saw the dice leave Ge Angshou's hands. Without hesitation, he stepped to the side, evading the core area covered by the concealed weapons while using Dragon-Phoenix Dance to knock down the three dice that could still threaten him.
But after that disruption, his pace inevitably slowed by a fraction, and Ge Angshou once again widened the distance between them.
Ye Weiming continued chasing, and Ge Angshou continued running. When Ye Weiming finally managed to close the gap to around ten feet again, his opponent unleashed another Flying Star Throw, returning everything to square one. It seemed they had fallen into an unbreakable dead loop.
Yet to prevent this bastard from getting away and targeting his two teammates—one NPC and one player—Ye Weiming had no choice but to keep chasing in this seemingly endless loop.
After chasing for a while longer, Ye Weiming's eyes suddenly lit up.
A turning point had finally appeared!
His important mission dog, A Huang, had actually taken advantage of their distraction to quietly lie in ambush along Ge Angshou's escape route. Just as Ge Angshou turned back and launched another Flying Star Throw at Ye Weiming, A Huang suddenly sprang out from behind and bit down hard on Ge Angshou's left calf!
"Argh!"
Ge Angshou let out a pained cry. This was A Huang's moment!
A Huang had earned his keep!
Fortune, Prosperity, and the Howling Celestial Hound had possessed him in that instant!
He was not fighting alone. He was not alone!
