Maud defied the World Government’s account of Crocodile’s defeat, recruited Urouge, and prepared for the coming conflict as Shiki attacked Marineford. When the Straw Hat Pirates arrived at Sabaody, Maud proved they were not ready to rescue Ace, then proposed building a force from Impel Down prisoners’ shadows.

• Maud rejected the Government’s attempt to rewrite Crocodile’s defeat, then helped Hina’s Marines repel pirates and uncovered Golden Lion Shiki’s invitations to attack Marine Headquarters.
• Maud returned to Sabaody and defeated Luo in a spar before overpowering Urouge and Apoo, while Kuma met Maud to fulfill their agreement.
• Maud told Luo he planned to publicize Ace’s capture and bloodline to provoke Whitebeard and Shiki, then delivered Apoo’s corpse to the Marines.
• Shiki attacked Marineford, but Fujitora stopped the falling warships and helped the Marines repel Shiki’s blade storm as he escaped.
• Luffy learned that the Marines would execute Ace and vowed to rescue him, but Maud defeated the Straw Hat trio with a Shadow Clone and warned them they were too weak.

Maud arrived at Marineford with a Zombie Army and opened the battle against Whitebeard’s forces. As the Marines trapped the pirates in the harbor and the fighting threatened to turn into a massacre, Golden Lion arrived with a fleet of flying ships and five islands.

• Sentomaru sent Pacifistas after the Straw Hats at Sabaody, where a stranger rescued Luffy from Sentomaru.
• Shiki proposed an alliance to Whitebeard, but Whitebeard refused, while Kaido prepared for war and Shanks set sail.
• Maud fought Doflamingo at Marine Headquarters before Fujitora halted them and escorted the Shichibukai to Mary Geoise.
• Maud proposed a Zombie Army, then went to Impel Down and gathered six hundred powerful pirate zombies from the prison’s Fifth Floor.
• At the execution, Maud fired the opening shot at Delacroix’s ship, and Whitebeard’s fleet emerged from beneath Marineford’s harbor.
• Maud wounded Jozu through his shadow, killed Little Oars, and used the giant’s corpse to block a gap in the Marines’ encircling walls.
• The Marines trapped Whitebeard’s pirates in the bay and unleashed a second devastating barrage, while Fujitora stopped Marco from reaching Ace.

Maud fought the Whitebeard Pirates at Marineford while the Marines struggled against Whitebeard’s forces, Golden Lion’s beasts, and Maud’s zombies. As Luffy and Sabo reached Ace, Maud set out to challenge Whitebeard, who met his attack amid the ongoing battle.

• Golden Lion attacked Marineford with his Flying Fleet and falling islands, but Maud halted one with Shadow Nails while Fujitora held back the others.
• Maud wrested control of the island from Golden Lion, and Whitebeard shattered it to break through the harbor defenses, giving his pirates a path into Marineford.
• Maud fought Whitebeard’s commanders, killed Delacroix and Izou, and used a hidden trap and an army of zombies against the advancing pirates.
• Sengoku ordered Maud to send his zombies against Whitebeard’s forces, but Maud refused, while the beasts and pirates pressed the Marines and the battle intensified.
• Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates tried to reach Ace, and Sabo revealed himself as Ace’s long-lost brother after helping break Fujitora’s hold over them.
• Maud stopped the execution platform from falling, then immobilized the Straw Hat Pirates and broke Luffy’s arm before Garp intervened.
• Maud knocked Garp down and headed for Whitebeard, killing Marines and Whitebeard’s allies who tried to block his path as Whitebeard continued fighting Akainu.
• Whitebeard told his men to leave Maud to him, then clashed with Maud as invisible blades cut wounds across his body.

Maud killed Whitebeard and Doflamingo, then turned against the Marines and helped Ace, Sabo, and their allies fight their way through Marineford. After defeating several Marines and severing Garp’s arm, Maud used Luo’s Room to throw the Blackbeard Pirates and Kuma into the Marine encirclement.

• Maud killed Whitebeard after a fierce battle, then used his shadow to take Whitebeard’s corpse away from Blackbeard and defeated Doflamingo with Luo’s help.
• Maud declared himself an enemy of the Marines, restored Luo’s chest wound, and had Luo extract the String-String Fruit from Doflamingo before killing him and taking the fruit.
• Maud reached Ace, Sabo, and their allies inside Bartholomew’s barrier, stopped Akainu’s attack, and helped them break through the Marines’ formation.
• Maud defeated Momousagi and killed her, then saved Robin from Dalmatian and gathered the Straw Hat Pirates inside Bartholomew’s barrier.
• Maud threw Luffy toward Garp, then used a hidden Shadow Mark to appear beside Garp and cut off his left arm.
• Maud fought the Marines to draw their fire away from Sabo’s group, then asked Luo to open a gigantic Room despite the cost to his lifespan.
