Just then, Qing Wu glanced at the Mankey's data.
Pokémon: Mankey (Orange Potential) Gender: Male Level: 17 Type: Fighting Ability: Guts Egg Moves: None Base Moves: Shoulder Throw, Karate Chop, Brick Break, Scratch
An Orange Potential Mankey was slightly stronger than a Red one.
After being sent flying by the Wind Blade, the Mankey's eyes turned bloodshot, and it evolved recklessly, disregarding everything.
The evolution was incredibly fast, happening at a speed even Qing Wu hadn't anticipated.
Normally, a Pokémon's evolution took at least fifteen minutes, and some longer ones could take several hours.
This real world wasn't like the anime, where evolution completed in just a few seconds.
A muscular Pokémon, very similar to the Mankey, appeared. The evolved Primeape was even more ferocious.
When Qing Wu scanned the Primeape again, he found its level had jumped to 22, a full five-level increase.
That put it five levels higher than the Zubat.
The evolved Primeape was also much tougher.
"Zubat, use Poison Fang," Qing Wu called out to the Zubat, which used this move for the first time.
The Zubat's four milky-white teeth instantly turned purple, poison energy swirling around them in a chilling display.
"Same as before, use Quick Attack under Tailwind," Qing Wu continued commanding the Zubat.
If the Zubat got hit by the Primeape now, the Primeape's fists could twist its slender wings, or worse, cause fractures.
But thanks to Tailwind and Quick Attack, the Primeape only saw a flash of white light before feeling a sharp pain.
Two fang-pierced holes appeared on its arm, with black blood oozing out steadily.
The Primeape's face suddenly turned blue, and it fell into a poisoned state.
This was the advantage of a Poison Pokémon. The Zubat's venom spread through the Primeape's body as its capillaries dilated.
Before long, this pig-nosed Primeape collapsed to the ground, unable to move.
The Zubat's venom was a neuroparalytic toxin. After some thought, Qing Wu decided to capture this Primeape.
After all, it was an Orange Potential Pokémon, and it had already evolved.
Though an evolved Pokémon's potential had slightly declined, its strength and speed far surpassed those of unevolved ones.
Qing Wu figured this Primeape could earn him a decent number of points, so he took a Poké Ball from his wristband and pressed the switch.
The Poké Ball, originally the size of a ping-pong ball, expanded to apple size. Qing Wu tossed it toward the Primeape.
The moment the Poké Ball touched the Primeape, it turned into white light, and the button in the center of the Poké Ball flashed red.
One flash, two flashes, three flashes, and then the Poké Ball went dark, signaling that the Primeape had been captured.
Qing Wu quickly released the Primeape and had the Zubat suck out the poisoned blood from its body.
The Zubat relished the hot, adrenaline-pumped blood mixed with venom after the intense battle.
Once the Zubat had absorbed all the poisoned blood, Qing Wu used a Poffin made from Peachy Fruit to neutralize the remaining toxins in the Primeape.
Only then did Qing Wu recall the Primeape into its Poké Ball.
"Hurry up and leave." Mankey were pack Pokémon. If there was one Mankey, it meant a whole colony was nearby.
Sure enough, not long after Qing Wu left, a large group of Mankey appeared in a swarm.
Qing Wu searched carefully, using his past life's experience to avoid some powerful Pokémon.
He had Kecleon and Zubat take turns attacking, defeating any Pokémon that ambushed them.
Finally, as the sun was about to set, Qing Wu found an abandoned cave near a fairly large lake.
It was much more spacious than the cave he'd stayed in the past few days, with some scratch marks around the entrance.
But Qing Wu could tell the cave's original owner was no longer there.
Wild Pokémon either moved out because a stronger one drove them away, or something unexpected happened.
Seeing the neatly laid dry grass and the cleanly swept cave floor, Qing Wu figured the owner had met with an accident.
To his surprise, Qing Wu discovered there was even an underground spring inside the cave.
This Sweet Spring Water was also excellent material for making Poffins.
The sun gradually set, and the moon slowly climbed high into the sky.
A bright moon was reflected on the lake's surface, and a gentle breeze occasionally stirred up layers of silver ripples, shimmering like a ribbon studded with gems.
In the lake, some nocturnal Pokémon were playing, adding a touch of liveliness to the quiet, serene night.
Qing Wu had long since sprinkled a circle of powder around the cave to repel mosquitoes and venomous snakes. This powder was made from medicinal herbs he had picked, dried, and ground up.
A bonfire had already been lit, its flames dancing inside the cave, shimmering with a golden glow—warm and bright.
Thanks to the small tongue of flame from his windproof lighter, Qing Wu had gotten the fire going very smoothly this time.
Two plump, fatty fish were already hanging above the bonfire. The flames licked at the grease seeping from the fish, leaving behind a charred, fragrant aroma.
Outside the cave, Pokémon occasionally passed by on their way to drink from the lake.
Qing Wu had already ordered Kecleon to raise two massive boulders, sealing the cave entrance tightly.
Spending the night in the wild mountains, he didn't dare place all his trust in the powder alone.
After all, some starving Pokémon wouldn't care about the powder's foul stench. Qing Wu had no desire to be disturbed from his dreams while asleep, or to encounter a fierce, high-level Pokémon and end up as a meal in its belly.
The next day, Qing Wu was woken by the chirping of a Pidgey.
The sun was already high in the sky. The forest was filled with the buzzing of Beedrill flying back and forth, many of them gathering honey.
Qing Wu saw that Zubat was already awake, training its skills alongside Kecleon. Seeing this, Qing Wu felt deeply gratified.
After all, no matter how great a Pokémon's talent, if it didn't work hard, even the best talent would struggle to amount to much.
Only if a Pokémon was truly diligent and hardworking could it hope for continuous breakthroughs.
"Kecleon, use Metal Claw on that rock," Qing Wu commanded directly.
Metal Claw was also the skill Kecleon was most proficient in.
From Kecleon's preparation to executing the skill, it took less than a second. Two silvery, cross-shaped Steel-type energy slammed into the rock, and the rock instantly shattered into countless small fragments.
"Zubat, starting today, you'll carry Kecleon for weight training."
Qing Wu had woven a cute basket out of vines for Kecleon. The top of the basket was tightly tied to Zubat's wings.
The Zubat-brand airplane was born. Zubat looked at Kecleon, who excitedly climbed into the basket, with a look of utter despair. Suddenly feeling a crushing weight, its legs trembled, and it nearly lost its balance.
Then, Zubat flapped its wings hard several times.
For a long moment, nothing moved. Both sides were awkward.
In the end, Zubat readjusted its stance and, relying on the power of Tailwind, barely managed to drag Kecleon along, stumbling and wobbling through the air.
This brought back painful memories of Zubat's early training.
o(╥﹏╥)o Too hard for a bat.
Kecleon, flying for the first time, seemed a bit excited, constantly looking around. So this was what it felt like to overlook the forest from the sky.
"Kecleon, follow Zubat, observe its flight path, and predict the direction Flying-type Pokémon will move."
Qing Wu gave the order to Kecleon.
These two cheerful companions, Kecleon and Zubat, were finally roaming the wilds together—no, that's wrong, roaming the forest.
No matter what Qing Wu said, Kecleon and Zubat would immediately carry it out. That was the tacit understanding built up over a long time.
