After Huo Wa and the town's young people arrived at the "construction site," they had already been digging soil for several months.
Just as Zheng Jie had promised, the work at the construction site was difficult and genuinely exhausting.

The supervisor then gave the order, telling Huo Wa and the other workers to climb onto the contraptions. Their job today was to pedal bicycles.
As for why they had to pedal these things, the supervisor in charge of the workers did not say. Perhaps the supervisors did not know either. Huo Wa had heard their supervisor grumbling that morning.
