10 a.m.
Luo Yan and the others arrived at Chen Family Town.
Walking along the town's main road, they could see that most of the buildings on both sides had been reduced to ruins. Children climbed among the rubble, searching for things that interested them.
When they saw a vehicle enter the town, they all looked over. Once it left, they resumed their great gold-mining endeavor.
The town was being rebuilt. As Luo Yan drove along, he heard the sound of heavy machinery at work.
When he turned a corner, he saw several excavators clearing a stretch of ruins. Their steel claws scooped up whole sections of rubble and dumped them into the heavy trucks beside them.
The trucks hauled the rubble away, gradually clearing an open space.
A short while later, Luo Yan passed a construction site. A two-story building inside bore a sign reading, "Chen Family Town Reconstruction Command Center."
A temporary medical station had also been set up on a street corner. A blood donation vehicle was parked beside it, but it had been repurposed. It was now a mobile clinic where doctors treated patients.
Luo Yan stopped and said to Xie Zhiwen, who was sitting behind the driver's cab, "There's a medical station here. Get Uncle inside and have him checked out."
Xie Zhiwen hurriedly agreed. He then carried Xie Dachun on his back and got out of the vehicle with his wife and daughter.
Luo Yan went to the back of the vehicle and opened the door, allowing the others to get out as well so those who were ill could receive medical attention in time.
Only after everyone had left did Luo Yan return to the driver's seat. He started the vehicle and drove away amid the waves of Xie Zhiwen and the others.
