Then they saw that in Twelfth District, where Richard's residence in Pompeii Town was located, the ground let out a "hum" as the entire surface seemed to suffer a powerful impact from below. Like the crust of a flatbread baking over fire, it rapidly bulged and warped.
Several isolated Stone Towers were forcibly displaced and slid outward. Richard's residence at the very center, however, seemed too heavy for the ground to bear. With a crash, it sank underground.
This was because the enormous cavity created by the nuclear explosion in an instant was not stable at all and simply could not maintain its shape. Under the combined effects of gravity and impact force, it rapidly collapsed, dragging the soil above down with it and forming a massive pit.
As the pit gradually took shape, the nuclear bomb's shockwave spread farther and farther. The whole of Pompeii Town, the entire Vesuvius Dak Volcano, and the vast regions beyond all began to shake, producing an earthquake no weaker than magnitude five. Compared with a nuclear bomb detonated on the surface, an underground nuclear explosion would not produce an iconic mushroom cloud, nor would it inflict such powerful damage upon the ground. It was quite "conservative," but correspondingly, it could affect the underground to a far greater extent.
