Richard turned his head slightly, glanced at Barry, and calmly asked, "Why won't you allow it?"
"Because we already reached an agreement!" Barry shouted, his entire face drenched, whether with sweat or tears, it was impossible to tell. "People have to keep their word, people have to keep their word! You're so strong, you can't go back on your word whenever you want, or who would ever trust you again?!"
Richard looked quietly at Barry for several seconds before speaking. "There's something you may have misunderstood."
"Misunderstood? What?"
"That is... we never reached an agreement." Richard said, "Earlier, I did indeed state my terms, and you stated yours.
My terms were to borrow the Blood Codex for a period of time, while your terms were for me to kill your enemy Noan, kill all of Noan's subordinates, help you become the leader of the Ancestral Spirit Society, and fully assist you whenever you encountered difficulties in the future.
Whether those terms were reasonable or not aside, at least in my view, your asking price was a little too high. Therefore, I never explicitly agreed to them. I merely intended to assess the situation first. If there were no other options, cooperating with you would have been acceptable.
But if there was a better option, then don't blame me. After all, cooperation goes both ways. You can name a high price, and I can choose someone else. Right?"
After speaking, Richard calmly looked at Barry.
