Philip swayed as he looked around. The strange creatures in his field of vision had all vanished—or rather, they were all dead. The only ones still standing were the few surviving vehicle crew members and men from the Gray Parrot Enhanced Regiment.

Philip could not help but feel a surge of wild joy. Seeing Frank approach from the right, clutching his stomach, he shouted, "We won!"
Frank showed little reaction. He merely glanced at him and said weakly, "Everyone will die." Then his legs gave out, and he collapsed to the ground with a thud.
Philip froze at first, then was startled. He hurried over and tried to help Frank up. Only then did he see a deep wound on Frank's abdomen, apparently inflicted by one of the strange creatures during the battle. Blood kept seeping out of it.
"Frank, you... you're hurt!"
"Hurt?" Frank smiled faintly at those words and, unusually, spoke normally. "It's nothing. Everyone will die anyway. I'm just dying a little earlier."
As he spoke, Frank slowly closed his eyes. He could clearly feel his strength rapidly draining away with the blood flowing from his wound, while his consciousness gradually sank into darkness.
