A few hours later.
In an underground complex somewhere, Yuesefu appeared in a spacious secret chamber.
Besides Yuesefu, there was one other person in the chamber: Canon, the steward Yuesefu had come to see.
Canon had not changed much since the time he had ambushed the Undead Wizard Shande. He was tall and thin, his face stiffly expressionless, without the slightest emotional ripple in his eyes. Dressed in gray, he stood with his back to Yuesefu, squinting at a map hanging on the chamber wall—the map of the Main Continent.
The map showed that the Main Continent was roughly divided into four parts.
To the south lay a loose political entity known as the Southern Free Federation.

The Soma Alliance occupied nearly half of the Main Continent. There were also quite a few kingdoms, duchies, and autonomous cities within its borders, but all were nominally subject to the Soma Alliance's rule.
Logically speaking, it would have been unreasonable for a political entity as powerful as the Soma Alliance not to move against the Southern Free Federation. Yet in reality, the Soma Alliance had done nothing to the Southern Free Federation for decades.
The main reason was that the Soma Alliance had been founded less than thirty years ago. Before that, four kingdoms of roughly equal strength had stood side by side. Then, one of those kingdoms produced a ruler
