Divine Favor

Qiekafu kept reading through the documents, occasionally pulling one out and setting it beside him.

After a while, Qiekafu raised his head, gathered the dozen or so documents at his side, and said to Canon, "Canon Supervisor, I believe the documents on your desk should all have backups, according to regulations. Then I won't stand on ceremony—I'll borrow these for the time being. I'm going to investigate the matters described in them. We can talk again once the investigation is complete."

After speaking, Qiekafu nodded to Long Mei Er and Canon respectively in farewell. Then, without another word, he quickly left the room and departed the base, heading who knew where.

The room fell silent.

A moment later, Long Mei Er started toward the door as well. When he reached it, he paused slightly, turned his head, thought for a moment, and instructed Canon, "Canon Supervisor, Inspector Qiekafu was sent by the chief of Gray Mist after all. If he is only investigating potential dangers in the area, cooperate with him as much as possible.

"And if, while investigating those dangers, he also does other things, then... within the organization's rules, you should also... well, cooperate with him as much as possible.

"After all, we are all servants of the True God. We... have no selfish motives."

With that, Long Mei Er disappeared through the doorway.

Canon stood alone in the room when pattering sounds came from behind him. The enchanted Big White Rabbit that had been hiding in the corner hopped out and jumped into his arms.

Canon slowly stroked the Big White Rabbit's soft fur. Looking out through the door, his gaze unfocused, he murmured to himself, "No selfish motives...?"

If there truly were no selfish motives, there would have been no need to say such a thing.
