  • Richard reasoned about the dragon's flight and walked along its back to look beneath its tail.

Ch. 32Dragon's Lair

Richard questioned Gregory about his fire and flight while Gregory flew him to a Black Castle, but their journey was dominated by Richard frustrating the dragon with endless questions. After landing, Gregory transformed into a man and went into a nearby cave, while a petite figure approached the mountain.

  • Richard asked Gregory whether his fire and flight came from magic, then deliberately frustrated Gregory by turning his attempts to ask questions into a counting game.
  • Gregory threatened Richard, but Richard continued correcting his wording and reasoning through the threat until Gregory roared to drown him out.
  • As Gregory flew over a forest at sunset, Richard estimated they had traveled about a thousand miles from the Blue Lion Kingdom.

  • Richard sensed someone behind him and turned to see a petite figure walking up the mountain.

Ch. 33Pandora, the Dragon Girl

Richard met Gregory’s daughter Pandora, a cold, purple-haired dragon girl who appeared as a small child. At dusk, he tried to communicate with her by testing languages from his world and his own, but she did not respond.

  • Richard saw Pandora approach the Black Castle and was surprised by her childlike human appearance and aloof manner.
  • Richard wondered whether Pandora and Gregory lived separately, then returned his attention to researching the world.
  • At dusk, Pandora came out of the Black Castle and watched Richard roast a rabbit over a bonfire.

  • Richard tested numerous languages from the continent and Modern Earth, but Pandora showed no reaction.

Ch. 34Deaf-Mute Girl?

Richard failed to communicate with Pandora using spoken languages or sign language, then chose to sleep in the Black Castle and meditate. Pandora later sensed something below her room and turned her dangerous gaze toward it.

  • Richard tested languages and several forms of sign language, but Pandora showed no understanding or response.
  • After Pandora entered the Black Castle, Richard chose a room, cleared away the dust with a Wind Spell, and meditated on a bare wooden bed.
  • Gregory listened from the Dragon Cave and was disappointed that Pandora had not thrown Richard out.
  • Pandora sat curled up in a second-floor room until she sensed something below and sharply turned her dangerous gaze toward it.

Ch. 35Soul Body in the Old Castle

  • Richard found an invisible force repeatedly pushing his consciousness back into his body, but he broke through it and entered the room where Pandora was hiding.
  • Richard realized Pandora could not see him and discovered a separate, mist-like Soul Body in his room.
  • The Soul Body tried to reach the cord linking Richard’s consciousness to his body, so Richard struck it away with his Mental Strength.
  • After recovering, the frightened Soul Body fled the old castle, and Richard absorbed Astral Projection energy to strengthen his spell source.
  • Pandora sensed that the presence she disliked had left and looked down toward Richard’s room.

Ch. 36The Story by the Pool

Richard found a pool where a leopard and a black bear were drinking, but Pandora arrived and overpowered both beasts. After she chased them through a series of confusing water tests, they fled, and Richard heard many animals approaching from the forest.

  • Richard found a pool where a leopard and a black bear cautiously drank side by side.
  • Pandora charged in, drove the beasts into the forest, and returned riding the leopard while pursuing the black bear.
  • Pandora dragged the leopard and black bear to the pool and tested whether they would drink, striking them when they failed or disobeyed.
  • Pandora released the chastened beasts, and Richard watched them flee into the forest.
  • Pandora turned toward the forest as Richard heard many animals approaching.

Ch. 37Spell Research

Richard studied the principles behind spells and explained to Gregory how understanding their mechanisms could let him strengthen or counter them. He demonstrated the connection between combustion and flame color, while his research remained in its early stages.

  • Richard watched Pandora knock a line-cutting wild boar back to the end of the queue, then concluded that the animals followed rules enforced by her violence.
  • Richard returned to the hill, used Water Droplet Condensation to make water, and began researching spells with the Chapter of Munro and experimental materials.
  • Gregory emerged from the Dragon Cave to complain about Richard’s experiments, and Richard explained that he wanted to understand the fundamental principles behind spells.
  • Richard told Gregory that spell research could eventually allow him to enhance or counter magical effects, unsettling Gregory with the possibility of disrupting flight.
  • Richard demonstrated Phosphorus Candle and Flame Impact, explaining that both involved combustion and that flame color depended on burning elements and temperature.

Ch. 38Magic Rune Spells

Richard demonstrated that combining basic spells could produce power beyond his rank, then introduced Gregory to Magic Rune Spells. After Gregory warned that he would eventually send Richard away to protect Pandora, Richard began carving a jade shard into a magical tool and made it produce a dark blue flame.

  • Richard explained how he had used spells to liquefy oxygen and demonstrated its explosive power to Gregory.
  • Gregory objected that the preparation took too long for combat, and Richard said Magic Rune Spells could solve the problem.
  • Gregory worried Richard might someday threaten Pandora and said he would eventually send him away, but Richard chose to stay at the castle for now.
  • At dusk, Richard studied the Chapter of Munro and carved intricate grooves into a White Jade Shard.
  • Richard infused the shard with mana, causing it to vibrate, crack, and produce a cluster of dark blue flame.

Ch. 39Spell System

Richard studied the history and classification of the incomplete Wizard Spell System, then successfully used a magic rune to cast Phosphorus Candle. He continued making White Jade Shards for further experiments as he pursued his goal of letting a First Level Apprentice briefly contend with stronger opponents.

  • The Chapter of Munro described how the Spell System originated in the Ancient Wizard Civilization, was devastated by a catastrophe, and was only partially restored by later Wizards.
  • The account outlined the nine restored Spell Categories and their branches, including the dangers and lost knowledge associated with several types of spells.
  • Richard compared Magic Rune Spells to circuits and computer languages, reasoning that runes could reproduce other spells if inscribed and combined precisely.
  • Richard split a White Jade Shard and produced dark blue flames, successfully casting Phosphorus Candle through a magic rune.
  • Richard extinguished the flame and began making more magic rune White Jade Shards for further experiments through the night.

Ch. 40First Words

Richard continued preparing materials and building crude structures while living with Pandora and Gregory. Pandora finally spoke to warn him of danger, as beasts grew restless beneath a blood-red moon.

  • Richard made lime, potash, soda ash, acids, and other substances, and built a windmill, kiln, and pool in the clearing.
  • Richard noticed that Gregory sometimes left the Dragon Cave for days, while Pandora continued communicating only with gestures and glances.
  • Pandora dragged several huge trees to the clearing, stripped them into trunks, and tested them as enormous clubs.
  • Pandora told Richard not to wander at night because it was dangerous, revealing that she could speak.
  • Richard heard beasts roaring and hissing throughout the forest and saw an enormous moon that seemed stained red.
