Yet the Northern Continent was far too vast; searching for someone here was harder than fishing a needle out of the ocean.
It took him a full twelve years before he finally locked onto Shen Ni's trail.
Shen Ni!
The Beast King!
A special existence born from the flesh and blood of the Demon God after Pangu's Heaven-Opening.
By nature, he delighted in slaughter.
Though both were killers, a vast gulf separated Shen Ni from Luohu.
Luohu killed in pursuit of the Dao.
He had his own principles and code of conduct.
Shen Ni was different.
His was pure slaughter.
In modern terms—
He was a madman.
And now, someone sat before Shen Ni, speaking of who knew what.
The scene was utterly baffling.
If word got out, countless beings would be stunned beyond belief.
Was this truly the savage, frenzied Beast King?
"Daoist Hongjun, what exactly are you trying to say? Don't tell me you want this Emperor to be a pawn in your hand?"
Shen Ni spoke coldly, a cruel smile twisting his face.
Hongjun remained composed, unshaken by Shen Ni.
He said calmly, "You don't understand. An anomaly has arisen in the Primordial Wilderness—a being seeks to defy Heaven. My purpose in seeking you out is to join forces and eliminate this Heaven-Defying Outlaw. Of course, as a reward, I can promise you a Saint Position!"
"A Saint Position?"
Shen Ni's eyes blazed with divine light as he stared hard at Hongjun.
A frenzied aura surged forth like raging ocean waves, crashing wave after wave toward Hongjun.
Hongjun was unhurried. With a flick of his Whisk, he dispelled the pressure entirely and said evenly, "Why must the Beast Emperor be so agitated?"
"What proof do you have? You yourself are merely at the Sub-Saint Realm—how dare you speak of Saint Positions?"
Shen Ni fixed his gaze on Hongjun and asked in a low voice.
Hongjun smiled, his expression turning proud. His entire presence became ethereal, as if he had merged with Heaven and Earth.
His voice rang out like a great bell: "I am the Heavenly Dao Spokesperson, the destined Saint. How could the matter of a Saint Position be false?"
Boom!
As he spoke, countless leaden clouds churned in the sky, coalescing into a Heavenly Dao Eye that gazed down upon Shen Ni with cold indifference, sending a shudder through his heart—a sense of imminent catastrophe.
"It... it really is the Heavenly Dao!"
Shen Ni spoke with a tremor, his expression growing complicated.
"Now do you believe? Beneath the Heavenly Dao, a Saint shall arise. The matter of the Saint Position cannot be false. When the time comes, the Beast Emperor will have his share. The price is that you join me in striking down the Heaven-Defying One."
Hongjun coaxed persuasively, his eyes turning wild as he finished.
He knew full well that the Heavenly Dao Saints had long been decided—where was there a place for Shen Ni?
He said this only to lure Shen Ni into opposing Qing Tian.
Shen Ni took a deep breath, steadying his mind, then said, "What must I do?"
"I will notify you when the time comes. I have already contacted Ancestor Dragon, Phoenix Ancestor, Shi Qilin, as well as Old Ancestor Yin Yang, Daoist Yang Mei, and other Great Powers of the Primordial Wilderness. With you and the Lord of Divine Court, Di Tian, dealing with that Heaven-Defying Person is all but certain."
Hongjun spoke slowly, reassuring Shen Ni.
"Ancestor Dragon, Phoenix Ancestor... what price did you pay to recruit them? A Saint Position as well?"
Shen Ni asked sharply.
Hongjun was clearly no easy mark, and with his connection to the Heavenly Dao, this scheme was surely no small matter.
If what he said was true, gathering so many Great Powers of the Primordial Wilderness would create a force capable of crushing anything—Shen Ni had to be cautious.
Hongjun knew exactly what Shen Ni was thinking.
A beast that only knew slaughter, no matter how wary, could never outmaneuver Hongjun, the Heavenly Dao Spokesperson.
He smiled and shook his head. "The Beast Emperor may not know this, but the Tribulation has already begun. As it is said, 'When Heaven sends forth the killing intent, stars shift and constellations move.' The Three Innate Races are all caught in the Tribulation and are fated to fall—how could they receive a Saint Position? As for Old Ancestor Yin Yang and Daoist Yang Mei, they each have their own destiny, unrelated to the Saint Position."
Shen Ni was half-convinced but nodded. "Very well, then it's settled. When you need me, I will come. But if you deceive me with words, you should know what I am capable of?"
Hongjun laughed heartily, flicking his Whisk. "Beast Emperor, if you do not believe, I can swear a Heavenly Dao oath, with the Heavenly Dao as witness!"
As he spoke, he indeed raised his voice and swore an oath to the Heavenly Dao of the Primordial Wilderness.
Thunderous peals rolled across the heavens as the Heavenly Dao gave its reply.
Shen Ni's gaze sharpened, and he was completely reassured.
Hongjun, however, sneered inwardly.
As the Heavenly Dao Spokesperson, communicating with the Heavenly Dao and swearing oaths was as simple as eating or drinking for him—he bore no karmic burden whatsoever.
In other words, even if he lied, it cost him nothing.
"Hongjun, you're in fine spirits. Have you healed so quickly that you've forgotten the pain?"
Just then, a voice rang out faintly, making Hongjun's body tense up abruptly.
"Dao Venerable Qing Tian!"
He swept his gaze around, and the Whisk in his hand instantly extended, transforming into three thousand heavenly rivers that pierced through the surrounding void, seeking Qing Tian's position.
At the same time, he drew a piece of jade from his bosom, bit the tip of his tongue, and spat out blood. Muttering incantations under his breath, he crushed the jade in his hand and scattered it onto the ground.
Thick mist rose up, sealing off all auras. Even one skilled in divination could not calculate his exact location.
Only after doing all this did Hongjun breathe a sigh of relief.
Qing Tian's strength was too terrifying—even the Heavenly Dao Incarnation was no match for him.
If he ran into him now, odds were ten to one that things would go badly.
Even if he himself could escape unscathed, Shen Ni would surely die.
That was why he had expended such great effort, reversing the yin-yang and the very fabric of heaven and earth, to completely cut off their qi signatures, while simultaneously employing the escape art of Sitting Still Traveling Myriad Miles to flee far from the scene of trouble.
Shen Ni watched Hongjun's actions with curiosity and asked, "Hongjun, what are you doing?"
Hongjun waved a hand and said, "The Heaven-Defying One I spoke of earlier has appeared and detected our traces. To avoid being picked off one by one, I had no choice but to retreat for now."
"Oh? I never imagined such a being existed in this world. Could it be that even the combined strength of you and me is no match for him—that we cannot even flee?"
Shen Ni found it hard to believe.
He himself was at least a Sub-Saint Realm expert, faintly able to glimpse the Primordial Dao Fruit.
Hongjun's power was even more unfathomable, backed as he was by the Heavenly Dao. It was difficult to imagine what kind of existence could stand against the two of them.
Could it be a Zenith Heaven Golden Immortal of the Origin?
"His methods are bizarre. You'll understand when you truly encounter him. Remember this: if you face him alone, do not engage—flee as far as you can."
Hongjun warned.
As his words fell, his figure had already grown ethereal, vanishing in an instant.
Qing Tian's appearance had stirred a powerful sense of crisis within him.
He had to hasten his pace, to act before Qing Tian could, and crush the danger in one blow.
Shen Ni stood in place, silent, a doubt gnawing at his heart. Just who is this person, daring to call himself the Heaven-Defying One? And of Old Daoist Hongjun's words, how many are true, and how many false?
He pondered in secret but found no answer.
Shaking his head, he cast these thoughts aside.
As a powerhouse of the Primordial Wilderness and the Emperor of Fierce Beasts, he would not be cowed so easily.
"So it was Old Daoist Hongjun who got here first, colluding with Shen Ni and using the power of the Jade Plate of Creation to obscure the heavenly mechanism—no wonder it took me so long to find them."
Qing Tian sneered, his gaze piercing through layer upon layer of mist, clearly seeing Shen Ni within.
