Four Emperors: We've Behaved, Please Spare Us
At the sight of that figure, Bone Emperor suddenly recalled the silhouette he had once seen, and his heart lurched.
The Three Emperors behind him also looked as though they were facing a great enemy, staring in terror at the approaching figure.
Hadn't they said that one could not move about freely within this Time Mist, that not even the slightest unnecessary motion was allowed? Then what was going on with this figure? Why could he pass through the Time Mist at will, completely unaffected?
But that was not the most crucial point. Why could this figure tread upon the River of Time's surface?!
As the figure drew nearer, they could feel the waters around them suddenly fall into Stillness. They too were frozen in place, unable to move forward or retreat, left only to watch helplessly as that figure approached.
The River Surface was quiet, so quiet that only the rise and fall of their breathing could be heard.
At last, when the figure came within ten meters, they finally saw his appearance clearly.
He was a very young-looking human man, handsome and striking, tall and slender, with firm, sharply defined features. A simple Cyan and White Robe lent him an air of immortal elegance as he stepped across the River of Time. Most terrifying of all, the surrounding Time Mist seemed to gather faintly around him!
Surrounded by Time Mist, treading upon the water's surface, walking upon time itself—what kind of existence was this man? Bone Emperor's pupils contracted sharply. The silhouette he had once deduced gradually overlapped with the figure before him, and an immense, uncontrollable terror began to grow in his heart.
It had been a very long time since he had felt such fear rising from the depths of his soul.
He had never seen any living being casually tread upon the River of Time—never! Even when he had once encountered a supreme existence beyond Immortal Emperors, that supreme being had neither dared nor been able to step upon the Time Water.
He did not even dare probe this man's cultivation, because judging from his aura, the pressure this man exerted on them was not particularly strong. It was even exceedingly weak.
Yet the more it was like this, the less certain he felt. A truly powerful expert's cultivation could not be probed. The cultivation you saw was merely what the other party wanted you to see.
If he could stand upon the River of Time, then what realm had this man reached?!
At the very least, he was beyond an Immortal Emperor. But as for what realm beyond an Immortal Emperor, they did not know, nor did they dare investigate further.
Forget beings beyond Immortal Emperors—even an Immortal King could crush them as easily as crushing ants.
Su Mu looked the four idiots who did not seem particularly bright up and down.
When he saw the Black Coffin beneath their feet, Su Mu's face immediately darkened.
Good grief! He had only just remembered that someone upstream had been throwing coffins and corpses into his river some time ago. Even thinking about it now still made him angry.
This coffin was identical to the one he had sent back some time ago.
So these four idiots were the culprits.
Did they really have to keep Throwing corpses into the river??
He had been nursing a bellyful of anger with nowhere to vent it, and now they had delivered themselves right to his doorstep. If he did not fleece them thoroughly, he would never smooth out the resentment in his heart.
"You four, did you really have to throw corpses into my river?"
With his arms folded across his chest, Su Mu questioned the four atop the coffin.
The moment those words came out, the Four Emperors' hearts skipped a beat, and they unconsciously swallowed.
That single sentence contained an enormous amount of information!
His river? And the terrifying existence who had once sent their Black Coffin flowing back upstream really was the man before them!
Bone Emperor instantly lost his temper. Before coming here, he had said that if he encountered the person who had ruined his plans twice, he would definitely teach him a fierce lesson.
Now that he had met him, his temper vanished at once. He did not dare have the slightest temper anymore. I've behaved. Please spare me!
"Senior, we did not mean to offend you."
Only after struggling to calm himself did Bone Emperor speak weakly.
"You did not mean to offend me?"
"What is inside that coffin?"
Su Mu stared at the Black Coffin beneath their feet and asked.
"This..."
The Four Emperors looked at one another, unsure how to answer.
"What? Is this question difficult to answer?" Su Mu frowned tightly, his tone somewhat displeased.
"No, no, it is not difficult to answer."
"The truth is, we do not know either. We were acting under orders. As for what is inside, we do not know."
Bone Emperor was not lying about that.
He truly did not know what was inside the Black Coffin. Only Your Excellency knew.
"Do not joke with me. It is not funny."
Su Mu did not believe their nonsense.
The moment he said that, Dark Emperor, standing behind Bone Emperor, had a flash of inspiration. He took a deep breath and said directly, "In reply to Senior, it is actually my father's corpse inside."
Upon hearing that, the other Three Emperors cast shocked yet grateful looks at Dark Emperor.
Dark Emperor, the organization would thank you for your sacrifice. To muddle through this, he had even dragged out his father, who had been dead for thousands upon thousands of years.
Only then did Su Mu nod. It was not as though he absolutely had to know what was inside the coffin. He only wanted to know why they kept throwing coffins into his river time and again.
"Since it is your father's corpse, why not let him rest in the earth?"
"Why throw his body into my river?"
Su Mu questioned them again.
Hearing this, Dark Emperor was momentarily speechless. Yes, what family would carry a corpse onto the River of Time?
One lie required countless lies to cover it up.
Just as Dark Emperor stammered, unable to offer a reason, Su Mu waved his hand. "Forget it, forget it. No need to explain."
"Since you insist on finding a place for a Water Burial, bury him downstream. Bury him farther away. Whatever you do, do not bury him here, where he is an eyesore."
The Four Emperors were overjoyed at his words.
They had originally planned to go to the downstream reaches of the River of Time anyway, roughly seven thousand years ago. This was exactly what they wanted.
Although they did not know why this man was here or why he claimed the River of Time was his, they could not spare the thought for it right now. They needed to find a way through first; they had remained on the River of Time for far too long.
Time on the River of Time was chaotic. Who knew how much time had passed on Your Excellency's Main Battlefield? If they missed the best opportunity, they would be in deep trouble.
Therefore, they could not continue wasting time on the River of Time.
"Thank you, Senior. Thank you, Senior."
The Four Emperors hurriedly expressed their thanks.
But they discovered that as long as this man stood before them, the waters in this area would stop flowing! Such strength had already surpassed the bounds of their imagination. What realm did one need to reach to make the waters of the River of Time stop flowing?? "Senior, could you please move aside?"
Bone Emperor forced out a smile and asked tentatively.
"I can move aside, but there will be a fee."
Su Mu said slowly.
