Background

Li Changyuan was born in the Great Yan Realm, an extremely barren mortal world whose spiritual energy was too thin to support even Qi Refinement cultivation. His origins are unknown: from his earliest memories, he was an abandoned orphan. 196 199

His life changed after meeting Li Qingshan, whom he calls Uncle Qingshan despite having no blood relationship with him. Old Three credits this encounter with allowing him to cultivate and leave Great Yan; without it, he believes he would never have been able to do either. 199

Despite ascending to rule countless immortal domains, Old Three retains deep ties to Li Family Village. He interfered with the Great Yan Realm's reincarnation cycle to keep his deceased relatives in the world, chiefly for Uncle Qingshan's sake. He later returned there with First Brother and reunited with Qingshan. 196 197

Old Three is decisive, aggressive, and intensely pragmatic. He regards mercy toward a defeated but dangerous enemy as a fatal mistake, refusing to spare Zhao Gu Sheng even after receiving Taishang's World Origin. 146 During conquests, however, he prefers forced submission and centralized rule over indiscriminate slaughter; he considers the conquered cultivators useful future soldiers rather than expendable enemies. 137

He is also impulsive and reckless, particularly where rare treasures are concerned. His attempt to steal a top-tier treasure from the Longevity Immortal Domain led directly to Little Five being grievously injured, drawing First Brother's anger. 304 315 In a crisis involving their master, he briefly lost control and lashed out at Dong'er before First Brother snapped him back to his senses. 330

He then confronted Zhao Gu Sheng, seized Taishang's World Origin, and attempted to eliminate the former Domain Lord. Zhao Gu Sheng ultimately escaped through a contingency arranged by his senior brother, leaving Old Three enraged at his first major setback. 146
