Adam Smasher stared at Su Xiao before him, utterly dumbfounded. "What the fuck kind of monster are you?!"
Chapter 1: I don't believe it. How could posting a paragraph comment possibly transmigrate...
Cold. Shaking.
When Su Xiao opened his eyes, he saw the unfamiliar, mildew-speckled roof of a tent.
He looked completely bewildered.
Where am I?
How did I end up here?
He closed his eyes and thought for a moment, quickly recalling what had happened before.
He had just posted a paragraph comment on the Hedgehog Cat APP.
Then he had lost consciousness.
When he woke up again, he was already here.
No fucking way.
Even posting a paragraph comment could get me transmigrated?
Heated arguing drifted in from outside the tent.
It piqued Su Xiao's curiosity, and he couldn't help listening closely.
"McCoy, you know perfectly well what shape the family's in. You shouldn't have brought him back."
"Was I supposed to watch the Random Blade Society take him away, then pretend I didn't know what horrible things those goddamn bastards would do to him?"
"He's not part of the family. He's got nothing to do with us. We can't help every single person who gets into trouble in the Badlands, can we?"
"I can't do anything about the others, but since I came across this kid, I couldn't just stand by."
"Fine, if you insist... But he can only stay here for a week at most, and whatever rations he eats while he's in camp come out of your share."
The arguing stopped.
Su Xiao hurriedly lay back down on the bed, pretending he had only just woken up and hadn't eavesdropped on their conversation.
A man of about thirty walked into the tent.
He wore an old suit of Exoskeleton Armor, its surface covered in scars. There was no telling how many desperate battles it had been through.
"You're awake."
Su Xiao sat up in bed, putting on the dazed look of someone still coming out of a deep sleep.
"This place is..."
"My name's Sam McCoy. This is the Buckle Family's camp. Don't worry. You're safe now."
The Buckle Family?
It was an unfamiliar name Su Xiao had never heard before.
Seeing his apparently genuine expression, the man opposite him wasn't suspicious.
"You've never heard of the Buckle Family? That's normal. Expecting outsiders like you to understand the Nomads' families, tribes, and nations really is asking too much."
"But I believe there's something else you ought to be more concerned about."
"Our camp's ripperdoc had to open a hole in your head to get the bullet out... You can take a look yourself."
As he spoke, McCoy handed him a mirror.
Su Xiao took it.
Then he discovered, to his surprise,
that although the person in the mirror had a bandage wrapped around his head, it did nothing to diminish his good looks.
Holy shit!
I'm so fucking handsome after transmigrating!!!
"Our camp's ripperdoc does great work, but how are you feeling? Any dizziness, blurred vision, nausea, anything like that?"
Su Xiu held his head. "I... I'm all right..."
"Good, good... Well, if you don't mind, I'd like to ask who you are and why you were out in the Badlands."
McCoy couldn't help growing curious about this mysterious young man.
After all, the Badlands were full of danger.
Aside from corporate armed convoys, Nomads, and the Random Blade Society, few people dared venture into the Badlands.
Let alone all by themselves.
Judging by his appearance, Su Xiao looked like neither a Nomad nor a member of the Random Blade Society.
As for being a corp dog, he looked even less like one.
Su Xiu wasn't wearing a corp dog's trademark suit.
But rather than assuming he was a corp dog, McCoy had another, bolder idea.
Maybe Su Xiao was actually someone from decades ago.
The reason McCoy thought this was that the ripperdoc who had treated Su Xiao's injuries
had told him so.
Not only did Su Xiao lack a single implant, he didn't even have Neural Slots.
This was 2077, after all.
Even the most traditional people had Neural Slots installed.
Otherwise, there were plenty of things they couldn't do.
McCoy had never seen such a "pure" human in his life.
Faced with McCoy's question, Su Xiao said nothing.
Seeing Su Xiao remain silent, McCoy nodded understandingly.
He didn't ask anything else, merely patting the head of the bed. "Get some rest, then. I'll leave you alone."
A few days later.
Su Xiao wandered idly around the camp.
After asking around over the past few days, he had learned that this was a Nomad camp belonging to the Buckle Family.
But neither the Buckle Family nor the Nomads rang any bells for Su Xiao.
When it came to people who made their home wherever they went, the first ones he thought of were the Romani.
But these people were very different from the Romani.
Vehicles specially modified for off-road driving, cowboy hats, jackets, leather clothes, all kinds of guns...
What kind of Romani were these supposed to be?
It wasn't until they mentioned Night City that it finally dawned on Su Xiao.
Well, damn. I'd transmigrated into the world of Cyberpunk 2077.
Ever since the game's first trailer had dropped, he had been waiting as eagerly as every other player, with each day feeling like a year.
But to make the eventual experience even better...
Apart from that first trailer, he hadn't watched any subsequent trailers, gameplay demos, Night City Wire episodes, or anything else.
He had simply given his PS4 a thorough dusting and waited for the game's release.
Although the repeated delays had worn down some of his patience,
good things were worth waiting for, as the saying went. The delays were there to give the game more polish.
He could accept that.
But when the game finally launched, negative news was already flooding the internet while his disc was still in transit.
Once he got his hands on it, he did indeed encounter plenty of bugs.
And since Su Xiao was playing on a PS4, his experience was even more painful than that of PC players.
He hadn't even finished the corporate employee prologue before he had to put it down.
And there it had stayed for two years.
He heard that most of the bugs had been fixed.
Just as he was about to play again, the developers announced a paid DLC for the following year.
Buying the paid DLC together with the base game would be cheaper, and he could enjoy the whole experience in one go.
So Su Xiao decided to wait a little longer.
He'd already waited two years. What was one more?
In the end, instead of getting the paid DLC, he got transmigrated into the world of Cyberpunk 2077.
When Su Xiao entered the logistics area, the camp's only mechanic spotted him and immediately let out a derisive remark.
"Aha, look what I found. The 'Young Master' is finally awake."
A classic American put-down.
America, all right.
But Su Xiao ignored him.
Instead, he surveyed the logistics area.
It wasn't very big.
Aside from the mechanic and a workbench for repairing firearms,
most of what occupied it was scrapped, unusable junk.
Seeing Su Xiao actually ignore him, the mechanic's expression soured.
Nomads lived in family units, which inevitably meant that some of them harbored rejection and hostility toward outsiders.
Everyone in the family had to pull their weight.
And the mechanic's work was the dirtiest and most exhausting in the entire Buckle Family.
