"Don't ask."
"That's Militech property. I have no authority to transfer it to anyone else. If you want money, I can pay you."
Su Xiao sighed.
"Can we be honest with each other? Hellooo? If you think I don't know how corporations work, you're seriously underestimating me. You think I don't know about 'allowable losses'? If you recover everything that convoy lost, what difference does one missing robot make?"
"You're the one writing the report. Just say the robot was damaged beyond repair and disposed of. Is your boss really going to give you grief over that?"
Su Xiao's words left Meredith with no graceful way out.
She hadn't expected him to know so much about the inner workings of mega corporations.
"Fine, then it's settled. The robot is yours. How are you going to help me?"
"I know who they are, and I know where they are. Give me a tracker. I'll pretend to negotiate with them and signal you once I reach the location. Then you and your people can storm the place."
If Brick had still been in charge, Su Xiao wouldn't have arranged things this way.
Brick was a reasonably sensible man, after all.
Possibly the most sensible man in the Vortex Gang.
But Brick was no longer in charge. Royce had taken over...
So Su Xiao would have to play dirty.
Meredith gave him an odd look. "Aren't you afraid I'll deliberately wait until both sides have torn each other apart before going in?"
"No."
"Why?"
Su Xiao raised one finger.
"First, I'm not that weak. You saw it yourself just now. I beat your two best agents in the blink of an eye. If Royce decides to kill me, he's the one who should be worried, not me."
Then he raised
a second finger.
