"Next!"
The gate guard's shout drew Moss's attention.
She looked toward the city gate and saw that it was precisely the underground slave merchant caravan.
"Hehe, officer..."
A bearded man in the caravan walked up with a flattering smile.
He smiled obsequiously as he approached the leading soldier, pulling a pouch out from his chest.
"A small token of my appreciation, please accept it, officer."
The man smiled servilely, yet no one noticed the trace of craftiness and ruthlessness hidden within his slightly squinted eyes.
The guard captain weighed the pouch in his hand, and a flash of covert, satisfied smiling appeared on his face.
Yet he quickly reined in his smile, shoved the pouch into his breast without a trace, and said with a stern expression:
Cut this out. What's inside that carriage?
"Officer, we're a transport team from the Loss Merchant Guild, and those in the carriages are unprocessed monster materials."
The man said with a cheerful chuckle, reaching out to pull aside the fabric curtain of a nearby carriage, whereupon a wave of bloody, putrid stench immediately gushed out.
"Ugh!"
The guard captain was choked by the oncoming stench to the point of rolling his eyes, and hurriedly waved his hand.
Wrinkling his face, he waved his hand behind him and shouted:
"Go check it out, make it quick!"
Hearing this, the soldiers behind the captain swarmed forward in a rush.
The underground slave merchant caravan consisted of more than a dozen carriages, but these soldiers moved with extreme swiftness and a decidedly perfunctory attitude.
They basically just lifted the curtain, glanced inside, and called it done.
Moss heavily doubted whether they had even seen the situation inside clearly.
Still, even if these soldiers had inspected with meticulous care, spotting the problem inside would have been unlikely.
