The moment Ma Zhaodi saw those insect-wing-shaped steel wings, he recognized the other party's identity. They had already crossed paths quite a few times during the War of Jokes and Riddles.
Of course, they had never actually fought. Ma Zhaodi was always incredibly fast at running away, and with Batman's support being fairly reliable, there had basically never been any direct confrontation.
"You're Firefly, right?"
Ma Zhaodi discreetly pulled Jason behind him and slowly edged toward the tank beside them. "I remember you. Your name is Garfield Lynns. You used to be a firefighter, right?"

Firefly had just charged out of Panessa Studios and only now noticed Ma Zhaodi beneath him. Hearing the question, his expression beneath the fly-head mask became somewhat pleased, then somewhat confused.
The reason for his delight was that he had always been a third-rate thug, a minor supervillain who had spent years as little more than a backdrop and supporting act for the supervillains who ruled Gotham. His greatest purpose was to help others put on a show. He had never expected to be recognized the moment he stepped out tonight. In a certain sense, that was a form of acknowledgment.
"So even I, Firefly, count as someone important enough to be recognized at a glance!"
