Nature and Function

Chakra is the energy used by ninja to perform ninjutsu and reinforce combat ability. A ninja's chakra quantity, output, control, and nature transformation aptitude directly affect the scale and effectiveness of their techniques 1 33 44.

• Chakra flows through the body's meridian system; disrupting that flow can temporarily prevent a ninja from using jutsu 66.
• Chakra exhaustion limits continued combat and technique use, while externally stored chakra can be used for replenishment 11 199.
• Extremely high chakra reserves permit large-scale techniques and sustained output that ordinary ninja cannot match 134.
• Chakra can be compressed, separated, gathered, and manipulated in specialized ways by Yuhara 50.

Chakra Natures

The conventional elemental chakra natures are Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, and Lightning 2 55.

Every ninja has at least one elemental affinity. In theory, the Five Releases can be learned through nature transformation, though progressing from transformation to usable ninjutsu commonly takes years or longer 55.

Kekkei Tōta

Kekkei Tōta are higher-order chakra combinations. Yuhara's Magnet Release combines Earth, Wind, and Lightning chakra natures 2 15.

• Magnet Release enables metal control and forms the basis of Yuhara's offensive and defensive techniques 14 44.

True Sage Chakra requires an equal 1:1:1 balance of Nature Energy, physical energy, and spiritual energy 34 227.

Chakra Storage and Transmission

Chakra can be stored, transferred, transmitted, and redistributed through seals, crystals, puppets, and engineered infrastructure.
